Question about Home Theater Systems

1 Answer

I have an LG plasma TV.The only audio out is by optical toslink. I bought an LG home cinema system thinking I would be able to get analog audio out via a scart adapter but nothing doing. This is so my partially deaf partner can listen on headphones whilst the rest of us listen in normally at a reasonable level. I thought I would get an optical splitter to feed the cinema system and also her ear phones. Trouble is I cannot find a digital to analog converter to supply the earphones. Any advice would be welcome.

Ok so you already established the optical connection from your TV to the hometheater system right? then follow these steps:
*first get look for any PRE-OUT terminal at the back of the amplifier
*get two rca cables (red and white to be color coded) and stick it to the PRE-OUT terminals of the amp.
*then get an adapter that will allow you to connect the headphones to the other end of the RCA cables (i think its available at radio shack).
*make sure that your headphones have volume adjusters. because the volume level on the PRE-OUT is fixed and cannot be adjusted using the amp. the only way to adjust it is by adjusting the volume level on the headphones. ü

after this you should be good to go...TC!

Go to any store with a comprehensive A/V Dept. and tell them you need a coaxial input/analog output adapter with Toslink...they run about $13-$14 dollars

Can i use a toslink cable

No. The Toslink cable would only carry the audio portion and not the video. That's why the HDMI cable and it's related firmware were created. HDMI can pass both video and digital audio. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Hello,
There are two things that I can suggest.
1-Test your optical cables to make sure they a good on a known working source because they are very fragile and break very easily.
2-Try to eliminate the use of optical output from tv to receiver. There may be a problem from the HDMI to optical conversion at the tv. Instead, try running the audio directly from the source to the receiver, and let the tv deal with video input only.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck.

You need to use a HDMI 1.4 Cable and it needs to be connected to to an HDMI socket with an ARC (audio return channel). Alternatively you can connect using an optical cable (TOSLINK).

I cant get my samsung home cinema system to play through my t.v

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.
