I bought a 1974 dt 250 Yamaha enduro from an old farmer. me and my dad cleaned everything out(soaked and blew carburetor out with air hose)(new air filter)(took the auto mixer off and pre mixed gas, and 2 stroke oil to 32:1 ratio) it ran and everything smoked a little like a 2 stroke should. so we had my 70 year old gpa look at it since he is pretty much a mechanic and he said it could run any better sounds brand new" he said. so I took it on a 4 mile ride that turned into 3 1/2 miles. I was switching from 4 to 5th gear at 2500-3000 rpms and all the compression was gone. so we took it to the shop and look at the piston and you could fit a penny through the top of it. is this from sitting to long? or is there a major problem?

Same happended to me with exactly the same motorcycle... I solved the provblem by replacing the crankshaft oil seal on the rightside of the crankcase. It solved the problem immediatly!

I seem to remember that they were oil injection, and had a tank seperate for oil, but...32:1 will work if it's pre-mix, just jet the carburator to match that and you will be fine.

JP cycles has them for $18 .Make sure you get the 5 3/4 inch seal beam. OEM yamaha are very hard to find and very expensive. google JP Cycles
