Does sound like the element is bad, confirm with a multimeter, should see 120v across the element terminals, if voltage is present check for continuity of the heating element with the power off, no continuity equals bad element.

These seem like the siemens/bosch type. There is a heater relay that can go bad. Its in the front panel. Check the relays in the front panel for bad solder or burn marks.

Checking ohms on whirlpool dishwasher heating element

http://waterheatertimer.org/images/ohm-reading-for-emements.jpg
Rated voltage squared divided by rated wattage = ohms
Element rated for 240 volts and 3500 watts
240 x 240 = 57600
57600 divided by 3500 = about 16 ohms

The controls of electric water heaters are designed so that at no time are both the top and bottom heating elements energized. Nearly all electric water heaters of this capacity in the US & Canada (other places, too) operate on 240 Volts.

When the water in the tank is below the set point of the thermostat (in your case - 120 degrees), the top heating element is expected to be on - (unless there is an issue with the top thermostat or limit switch). The top most control is the "high temperature limit". It is identified by the reset button on it. Make sure this isn't tripped by depressing the button. If it clicks - it was tripped and should start to make hot water at this point. If not tripped, you should check for the presence of 240 Volts between the heating element terminal screws. Do not measure from ground to a terminal screw and believe 120 Volts is "good". To make heat, you need 240 Volts - not 120 Volts measured across the terminals - not to ground. The amount of heat created running at 120 Volts is only 1/4 of what it will do at the correct voltage.

If you don't measure 240 Volts on the top element, check the bottom element in the same manner described for the top element.

If unable to measure 240 volts on any element, either there is a problem with the power source (blown fuse or circuit breaker), high temp limit switch, or thermostat(s).

If 240 Volts is present on either heating element, and water is not warm / hot in 30 minutes or so, a defective heating element is suspect. You can change controls without draining a tank, but replacing elements will require draining the tank first. Do not power the water heater without first filling it.

You can read a very detailed "how to" article about checking water heaters here.

I hope this helps - and good luck!

Whirlpool model # ee3jd40rd045v electric water heater is not working?

First do you have 220 volt power to the heater?
Second do you have 220 volt power to both elements?
Third do a ohm test on both elements with the wires disconnected
if it shows OL then your element is blown
Forth if you have power to only one element then your control is bad.
Good Luck

Whirlpool Dryer not heating

The motor has to be running for voltage to exit the motor going to the heater. With the back off the dryer and the motor running you should read 220 volts at the heater if all safetys and thermostats are good.
There is a thermal cut out relay on the heat canister. It must read continuity also.
Remember you must remove at least one wire from each component being tested to get a true open or closed reading. If a wire is left connected you get a false reading.
The heating element could be broken and part of the heater wire touching the canister. This would cause a continuity reading and still no heat.
Finally, yes,the centrifugal switch in the motor could be bad and not sending power to the heater on the red wire.

Heating element is white hot back by the connectors

the heating element is shorted to ground at that point and must be replaced.. it is not safe to use it this way.. usually that will trip a circuit breaker .. if it doesnt then you might want to have someone check to make sure the correct breaker is used (in your fuse box) ... if it hasnt already done so, that fault can damage the controller and seals where the heater goes thru the tub .. a new heater comes with new seals but not with the parts required to fix the controller if thats been damaged ..

clean light blinkn can be a number of things, ranging form bad heating element, possible bad door latch( not maintaining contact through cycle) motor and sensor could also cause this( but now changed they're ruled out.. in order to correct this issue, ive even had to rpelace the entire wiring harness to machine, i would advise you deal with an AUTHORIZED WHIRLPOOL servicer, so he can have the whirlpool techline assist in any future diagnosis, instead of just changing parts randoml.
