F updating the driver does not resolve the problem, it indicatesthat there is a problem in the registry. To fix this problem, you mayhave to remove a few keys from the registry.Note: Be careful while working with the registry editor becausechanges done to the registry using the Registry Editor are irreversibleand mistakes can leave you with more problems than when you started. Therefore, it is recommended that you make a backup of the registrybefore proceeding with the changes.
After you have removed the registry keys listed below, you willhave to reinstall all applications that you use for CD or DVD recordingto make them work properly.
To fix the error by editing the registry, perform the following steps:

  1. Exit and close all applications currently running on your PC.
  2. On Start > Run type Regedit and press the Enter key.
  3. Next, navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet ControlClass {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  4. Delete any of the following registry entries if they exist under this key:
    • LowerFilters
    • LowerFilters.bak
    • UpperFilters
    • UpperFilters.bak
  5. Restart your PC and open My Computer to ensure that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
  6. Also, open the Device Manager again to ensure that the yellow exclamation mark and the error code is now gone.
  7. Restart your PC and open My Computer to ensure that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
  8. Also, open the Device Manager again to ensure that the yellow exclamation mark and the error code is now gone.
Preventing System Errors
To prevent frequent system errors on your system, you must take care of the following:
  • Be a vigilant and aware user by being careful about the websites you visit and the email attachments you open.
  • Do not visit dubious websites and do not open attachments that come with unsolicited mails.
  • Implement antivirus and antispyware programs on your system, keep them updated, and run them regularly to prevent any malware infestation on your PC.
  • Keep your operating system, device drivers, and installedapplications updated with the latest patches and security updatesreleased by their manufacturers.
  • Use system utilities included with your Windows system to perform regular system maintenance.
  • Use a good registry cleaner such as RegGenie to regularly scan and fix registry problems.

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue then select restart if the problem still persists f8 back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

Rebooting is tipical of Windows XP when there is an important error. Most of the time this error is coming from the hardware.
There is a way to know the error code that make Windows XP mad, but you have to eliminate the automatic restart option.
With your mouse right click on My Computer, select properties, select advanced and you should see something similar:
70d8605.gif
deselect Automatically restart.
At this point next time you will have the error instead of rebooting you will see a blue screen with some message at the top and some code at the bottom, please write them down and post them here.

In case you cannot even enter in Windows XP because is keeping rebooting too fast, try to do the above steps in Safe mode.
To enter in Windows in Safe mode you have to press F8 as soon as you boot and before you see the windows logo on you screen, then select safe mode and repeat the steps above.

Last but not least, please send me the exact type of motherboard, processor and memory that you are using.

Hi I have a windows xp pro and my mother board is a ASUS A8V-X and it gave me a error message saying that I needed original cd that came with it i am assumeing that it would be the mother board i cant...

You can find manuals and drivers at the Asus site >> www.asus.com But in the position you are now and your computer wont start try do this
Start it at safe mode pressing and holding the F8 key while booting. Use your original Windows XP pro CD to repair/restore your windows installation
Just follow the onscreen instructions.
If that wont work you may need a technician to remove your had disk, take copies of any usefull data you may have on it, reformat your hard disk and make a new windows installation.
Try to upgrade to windows Vista.

Power failure right when it gets to one

looks like a windows-related problem.
try if your keyboard works at all by entering bios but do not change anything. just quit saving no changes.
does it work?
if yes, possibly a windows error.
to check :
- try booting from a windows-cd(XP), not from harddisk, without going through install process, execute the repair process instead.
- reboot from your harddisk in safe mode.
everything o.k.?

if still the problem, and don't have any personal data you might loose on harddisk(hdd)
reinstall windows xp anew, but this time let it format the hdd fully, then go on installing a clean, new copy of win XP.
when still facing the problem, plse come again

Problem with my DG31 chipset

Your motherboard may be failing. Sometimes when motherboards or ram fail they have a problem with dropping parts of files. However it would not hurt to get a new copy of xp pro and try that first.
