Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kenmore Top Load Washer Model 110.92593210 wouldn't agitate, now

My Kenmore washer stopped agitating. Repairman replaced timer control. Agitating okay but then wouldn't move past PAUSE when using the Perm Press cycles for auto temp control. It would just keep adding water and not draining, causing overflow. Works okay if you don't use the Perm Press cycles. Repairman replaced motor. Still wouldn't work. Replaced motor again. Still wouldn't work. Repairman replaced timer control again and the motor speed switch. Now it stops right before it is supposed to drain to begin the rinse cycle. Have to manually move timer to rinse cycle.

These problems mainly happen in Perm Press cycles.

It appears your timer/main controller has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!!

11 year old Kenmore washer fills then stops.

in the machine under the front control panel will be a module that controls the wash agitation. Have it checked out as they fail . There is no connection between the timer and this unit as it comes in to play when the water reaches a set level. The timer just keeps working through the cycles believing the washer is agitating.

My wahser just stopped working it filled with water and then started agitating and then all the sudden stopped please help

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water

My kenmore 800 washer is off cycle for example when i start a load of clothes it starts agitating before filling, and doesn't always spin all the water out of the clothes

I have the exact same problem with my Kenmore 800 top loader, Model # 110.29822800. It is only 1.5 years old. Any suggestions?

I have a Kenmore top loading washer model #110 and won't agitate

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.23912100

Also see the Whirlpool (Kenmore) Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers.

    https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

The first thing I'd try is using a different cycle. If the washer works as it should, the problem points to the timer.

I'd also check to make sure that when replacing the switch, the connections to the timer haven't come loose.

Since you've replaced the Lid Switch, the motor has power for the drain and spin cycles.

These washers use a reversing motor. The motor turns one way for agitating and reverses for the drain and spin.

Since you cannot hear anything when it is supposed to be agitating, the problem does point to the timer or motor.

Will not stop agitating, timer will not advance

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.20922990

As you say, I'd also suspect that the timer is not advancing.

Following is the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

    Kenmore cycles not working

Agitating as it fills, definitely sounds like a timer problem. The contacts inside the timer have likely shorted and fused together.
Replacing the timer will fix it and it's not too difficult do replace yourself.
Depending on your model, you can try removing the timer and opening it up. Once opened, use a small screwdriver to gently pry the shorted contacts apart. This may work for a while but once the contacts have shorted, it will possibly happen again.
Post your model number and I'll try to assist you if you need more help.
    Good luck!

    No spinning or agitating

If it has a mechanical timer switch, (the main control knob) that is possibly the culprit. The timer switch is basically the "brain" of this type of washer. I had this problem on a washer.

    Washer will not agitate

A wears out clutch might prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. Good luck!
