Question about Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Coolpix 8800-I loose connection with the memory card. There seems to be an intermittent contact because it happens sporadically, and I can make it happen by squeezing the hand hold on the camera (the memory card goes inside there). any fixes that you know of?

Hi there, My name is Rob and I can help you with that.
You can fix this with no out of pocket cost with a "home remedy" by using a shim.
Take a very slim object and place it on the opposite side of the contacts (the front side) in between the camera body and the card. You don't want the object to conduct electricity so make it out of either plastic or a thick cloth. Make it so you can easily retrieve it (so you can take the card out) by attaching a small piece of string to the material. You can coil the excess (but not too much) inside the compartment.

That will fix your problem. I tried to answer the chat request but it was gone before I could get to it! Anyway, thanks for coming to FixYa for support and if there is anything I can do for you, let me know, I will be glad to help. If you find my answer works for you vote it a fixya! You can still rate this even though you purchased a chat.

When I shot each photo, the "system error 2" appears and I have to turn off the camara,

System Error 2 on Nikon Coolpix 8800 is usually after blow, even the small one, when you or somebody kick the camera and yes, FULL RESET on Set Up mode is just one solution. It's camera's error not the card.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Nikon website:

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]
If the error is still displayed, contact Nikon's Service Department (below). If the above tips do not help the camera must be sent to Nikon Service, there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible.

Good luck.

How do I transfer images from my Nikon 8800 to my computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 8800 with a "System Error 2"

Check the memory card. It's probably damaged. If not it should be a software error, and you have to take it to the dealer where you purchased it from

"memory card is write protected"?? but it's not the memory card!

It's not the camera. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Memory card

Hi Janet, do this:
To fix this, remove the SD card from your camera. Look on the side and you will find a little switch. One end of the switch says locked the other end says unlocked. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Replace it in your camera and turn it back on.

Thanks for coming to FixYa and fee free to rate my solution.

Coolpix 8800 shuts down

Make sure to use good NiMH batteries. Another possiblity is a problem with the card. Borrow a card and see if it has any effect. check to see that the pins in the card slot are all aligned, none out of place. check that the card door and the battery door close firmly, with some pressure. The camera can shut down when it has a problem detecting that the doors are closed. When it does turn on, play with the zoom without taking pictures, zoom in and out, if during zoom the camera shuts down then you might have a lens problem, something is malfunctioning in the lens mechanism and the camera shuts down to prevent damage. Good luck
