Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

1 Answer

I have changed the toner in my printer and the toner light continues to stay on/won't print. I tried changing the drum and still the toner light stays on/won't print. I tried opening the toner door and holding down the 'Go' button to reset the drum counter and still the toner light stays on/won't print.

After changing the toner cartridge, the toner light is still on, and the only way to get a few printed pages is to pull the toner out, shake, and return. Any ideas?

I found the solution and it works!

    1) Turn the printer OFF (yes-OFF)

    2) Open the front cover

    3) Press AND Hold the GO button while you TURN THE POWER BACK ON

    4) When all 3 lights are lit, Release and press GO twice

    5) All lights turn solid -- with all lights solid, press GO 5 times (yes, really, 5 times)

    6) Ready light turns red

    7) Close the door and you're all set!

Odd I know but the IT person gave me this solution and to my surprise it worked!

No guarantee this will work but I refilled toner on my Brother 5170 and it only worked after making sure the old stuff was completely out. After removing the little plastic plug, I tapped out the toner repeatedly on the side of a trash can (like 50 times) then took a shop vac and let that **** out whatever toner was left. It really seems to be important for some reason to rid the cartridge of ALL old toner before adding the new stuff. Hope this helps!

How do I clean the rollers on dell 1720?

First of all dirty rollers are not the cause of your problem as long as the printer is picking up the paper.
Black marks or streaks on a DELL 1700 series printer are usually caused by the drum assembly which, in this model, is separate from the toner cartridge. There is no repair, you need to replace the drum assembly and perform the drum reset procedure. In very rare cases a buildup of residual toner on the fuser can cause marks as well, but I have never seen this on a DELL printer.
To replace the drum:
1. After removing the paper tray, open the front of the printer.
2. Remove the toner cartridge by pushing down on the black release tab and pulling the toner up and out of the printer.
3. Pull the drum assembly straight out of the printer using the blue plastic handle.
4. Carefully unpack the new assembly and install in the printer. Be careful not to touch the photo-sensitive roller underneath.
5. Reinstall the toner cartridge, close the printer and insert the paper tray.
6. Perform the drum reset procedure exactly as follows:

power off and open front door hold down the continue button as you power on printer leaving front door open when error light comes on release continue and close front door. toner low, load paper, ready, and continue will all be lit. press cancel slowly 4 times or until just toner low lights up. each time you press cancel, the light sequence should change when just toner low is lit, press and hold continue button until lights cycle up and down in sequence. release continue.. toner low will be lit again turn printer off, wait 10 secs or so and then back on press continue button to print off settings page and check under cartridge information, photoconductor value is 0K (zero)

Drum light is blinking and not sure how to change it or fix it in Brother HL-5250DN

Hit the purple/blue button on the top of the printer 3 times. This will print a settings report of the printer showing you the toner levels and the drum life.
If you need a new drum purchase one. (I would suggest a new printer at this time but if you like it continue on)
Open the front of the printer and pull out the toner and the drum cartridge. The drum is on the bottom of the toner. Disconnect the drum from the toner and connect the new drum. Replace the toner/drum and you are good to go.

Brother HL 2070N Drum Unit changed but printing with dots on the left hand side

If toner leaked into the machine and got on the fuser that could cause this, but the dots would go away after a few prints. Try another drum unit.

Brothers HL 1240 Alarm light on

Pull the drum out the front door, remove the toner cartridge and check for any paper and remove it.

Make sure there is toner in the toner cartridge. Look at the lights on the printer. Look at the labels beside them. The label "Toner" will have two lines going to two lights. If those two lights are on when you try to print, you are out of toner. But a now toner and install it in the drum. Install the drum back into the printer.

If not, look at the drum. At the rear top is an opening across the whole drum. Look inside it, you will see a metal grid. That grid must be clean or it will cause small sparks. These sparks will cause a false toner empty error. Buy a can of compressed air from Best Buy (or wherever). Use this compressed air to blow clean the grid. Move the small blue tab at one side of the opening ti the other side and back again. Reinstall the drum and try printing again.

If neither of those help, write back and let me know what lights stay on when the printer stops.

ALL lights are on and wont turn off

turn printer on, when all the ied's are flashing press the GO
key down untill just one of the leds stay on.
if the toner light stays on.........replace fuser or mpcb
if the drum light stays on.........replace laser.
if all the lights stay on.............mpcb.
Any of the above solutions that fix the printer would cost
more than the machine was worth.

mongrelken.

Poor print quality like toner low, but toner quanity is fine.

this sounds to me like it could possibly be stemming from the fuser, this is quite common on fuser that use a thin film belt for the heat roller...
