Question about Toshiba Satellite A105-S4004 Notebook

1 Answer

I had to replace my Toshiba A105 screen recently due to damage. I installed the new screen myself and it worked fine for a while, but now it has a pink vertical line about an inch thick running down the middle of my screen. Was the screen I bought faulty and what should I do to fix it?

Yes, I did. It was not refurbished. It was supposed to be new.

  • amitytv Feb 23, 2009

Within seconds of first turning it on, the line appears. There are about 2 or 3 seconds where it it is not there though, at the beginning. Does that help?

My problem is the same except it gradually gets worse until my entire screen is filled with lines. Sometimes I can just re-adjust my computer and they will go away, but other times I have to re-start it. Once restarted it will remain clear for a day or two until the lines start to come back...

Ok then, take it apart again and make sure all the connections are well seated, check the inverter (circuit board under the screen) the ribbon cable that goes behind the the screen and the block connector that attaches to the motherboard. If all theses connections are well seated and you still get the pink line, the screen is defective and you need to send it back.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Toshiba a105 on start up screen is red, then goes black

The Toshiba A105 notebook computer is made for mobile computer users who need optimal processing power. The LCD screen is a 15.4 diagonal widescreen with TruBright technology. The laptop has a fast hard drive access rate that is in the 3ms range for the paging and access of data. There are problems that can occur with the Satellite A105 that can be solved by knowing what to look for when troubleshooting the system.

Black Screen Problem Black screen problems can occur when the Satellite A105 backlight is burned out or the inverter is not working correctly. The backlight can be replaced with a new LCD bulb manufactured for LCD screens. The inverter is a housing unit that controls the voltage to the LCD screen. The inverter must be replaced by a compatible A105 Satellite inverter unit. Power Problems b> During the power-up phase of the laptop, the Satellite A105 will quickly turn off without signing into the Windows Operating Screen. The problem can be due to a faulty power adapter that is not supplying the right amount of voltage to the system board. You can also check to see if the unit that houses the power plug is loose, which also indicates lack of voltage or electricity going to the board for power up operations. Hardware Conflict Problems b> Hardware conflicts can cause system errors or "freezes" by loading a new hardware component into the same hardware I/O address. The Satellite A105 has designated input/output addresses for peripheral devices, such as hard drives, video drivers and other hardware functions. To solve hardware conflicts, use the Control Panel "Hardware" device function to see which hardware I/O addresses is not being used. b> Audio Not Working Correctly b> Loading a new audio program can cause the audio codec for the Satellite A105 not to produce sound. The audio codec can be restored by loading the "restore system disk" for the A105 laptop. The restore menu provides options on certain components that you want to restore. If you pick the option for audio, the program will restore the audio to its factory settings. b> On-board LAN Switch Not Working b> The Satellite A105 is automatically configured to detect T Base 10/100 Ethernet networks. If the laptop does not recognize the on-board LAN switch, check the system setup to examine if the LAN switch is on. If so, a firmware update may be needed to upgrade the BIOS.

Hello,
You can not download the software CD but you may be able to find most of the drivers and supporting software on toshiba's website. To get the actual software CD / recovery disk, you will have to contact toshiba. They will charge you about $40 for it.

Put US-made 120 V Toshiba into 240 V electric current. It blew.

Did the smoke come from the computer or the power supply. Most of the power supply boxes for notebooks are multi voltage and can auto switch from 110 to 220. If the smoke came from the power supply box it may not have damaged the computer. If it came from the system, the power stage of the motherboard cooked and it will need replaced. If it is an older laptop it will probably not be worth fixing as it may cost more than half of the cost or a new one. I would try using a different power supply to test it and see if it comes on. If not, you may be looking at getting your data transferred to a new computer.
Best of luck

Cheers

Toshiba A105-S101 freezes at start up!

I would first attempt to reinstall the software from the install cd. Your Toshiba support page is recomending a new BIOS upgrade. See below:

Hi,
The problem with the LCD screen , if the external display is working fine. The LCD needs a replacement. The same thing happened on my Dell and we had to replace the Lcd. The same can occur because the LCD cable gets damaged when you open or close the LCD

Thanks

If the power adapter no longer works it's time for a new one. Try brighton on ebay. They have great adapters with warrenty. I use them myself.

Only thing i can say is this. Try to get a new screen because from what you are describing. I believe that the monitor is damaged inside. If you got the laptop recently i will suggest that you get it returned for a different one.
