Keypad sound buttons not active. Sound works elsewhere but when I need to turn up down or off I always have to resort to icon which takes a while to activate (a few seconds) but is troublesome when needing to volume up down and off quickly. Looked everywhere but everything seems to be turned on in settings.

Check your keypad having any problem (if the volume up/down key present in the keypad itself). If your laptop having separate keys for volume it could have problem. Plz clean the volume down key with help of little bit of isopropyl alcohol. Press volume down key 10-20 times and check.
check on the notification area if your speaker is enable or not or maybe the volume is lower to zero that why you are not getting any sound, just right click on the speaker icon and open the volume mixer then you will if it is mute or just lowered the volume

I can only suggest checking via your Control Panel > System > Hardware. Making sure the drivers are still installed. Also worth noting - Have you installed anything else recently - that may have stopped it... Also, try the help wizard via you help and support pages on your O/S
The audio driver should still be there, it has most likely just glitched. Go into the device manager and make sure the driver is still there. If the driver isn't there it will have a yellow question mark on the sound section, then you will need t go to HP's support site and download the driver. If the driver is there, then unistall it and reboot. The machine will find the sound card and reinstall the driver automatically. Then you may need to adjust the sound settings. Try this and let me know.
