Have a 99 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab. Been in the mobile audio business years ago
so I already got my fix of super high-end earth shaking stereos (decided I
wanted to be able to hear when I'm older). Want to upgrade the Tacoma stereo
to a reasonable level, willing to shell out $600-$800 dollars. I know for
sure I want a 3 or 6-disc changer. Would like to avoid having to purchase a
seperate amp and/or mini-sub (obviously my budget is cost prohibitive to
this). I am guessing an in-dash 6-disc changer head unit with a well rated
built-in amp, coupled with two pairs of very efficient two-ways with good
bass repsonse is what I am looking for.
Could someone with current knowledge of what's out recommend a strategy
and/or some specific components that offer a lot of bang for your buck.
Appreciate it.
Happy Holidays

Everyone I know with a six disc changer has the
same 6 CD's in it that they bought the thing with.
It really is a pain in the but to change them, that
said I would suggest looking at an Alpine in-dash
3 disc changer. However, you might find that if you
are impatient, the delay in putting new disc's in the
cartridge and then back in the deck may drive
you nuts. You will find that the Alpine deck
can be had for a fairly low price ($450 CDN).
Also, I have to admit, aside from the 6 disc changer,
I like Stephen's recommendations.

out there with an indash 6 disk headunit w/amp is the Nakamichi MB-75
& MB-100 but they start at about $500. Note the amp module is
detachable.
With that budget in mind I'd look into a single CD player that has
changer capability. The changer can then me mounted under a seat, in
the glove box or in the armrest. Something like an Eclipse 5342 & a
5062 changer should be about $500. Eclipse has the 5961 which is an
indash s disc changer but you need a headunit to control it. Not sure
if your factory stereo can control it
Leaving you $300 to spend on speakers. Since you want something with
bass I'd recommend the Memphis AR-SYNC8 which is a coincident 8"
coaxial driver. Mounting depth might be a problem though if so
consider the Morel Renaissance R-8 Integra which is shallower. Also
look at AVI Direct LX or EL 160 separates or CX-160 coaxial, BA Pro
6.5 or Rally RC61. If those are too much look at the JL TR600-CX or
VR600-CX.
Another good bang for the buck brand are the DEI HE/HF series but they
may be too innefficient for your application.
You probably know you won't get much bass out of these speakers as you
would by adding a sub. But then you need to budget for that and an
amp.
