Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

My Hp Pavilion dv6700 laptop will not start properly. I was in the process of installing a program, and the screen forze. I restarted the computer by holding down the power button, and I tried to reinstall the program. The screen froze again, and I did the same thing to restart it, only this time, I never got past the loading page. The computer makes a clicking noise, over and over as if it is loading, but I think that indicates that it has a problem.. I tried to go to system restore, and the screen turns blue, as if it is going to the system restore page, but then comes the clicking noise, and it freezes. I've let it sit, and I've tried to start normally, but all I get is a 2 second glimpse of an error screen that is blue. It does not stay up long enough for me to read it. Please someone help, this computer is only 5 months old, and I don't want to waste money, or rather I can't waste any money on a new hard drive... HELP PLEASE!!

Thanks for the advice. Seeing that the warranty is most likely still good, gives me great hope, and relief that I wouldn't have to spend hundreds of dollars for repairs.. Thanks!

My problem was that my HP Pavilion laptop would not start, and you had asked for the serial number to check if the warranty was still good. Well here it is:\r\n
The model is an HP Pavilion dv 7600 laptop with vista home premium. ( I hope that's what you mean by model?) It also says dv6911om??

    S/N: CNF8205Z8V

I hope this helps.. On the label it says 1 year after the the word warranty, so I'm guessing it would be covered, but my question now is what do I do to get it recovered? (Send it in??)

Sounds like a bad hard drive if your getting clicking noises. Give me the model and serial and I'll look it up to see if the machine is still under warranty.

If it's only 5 months old then you're covered under HP's warranty. It would probably be a good idea to contact them for support.

Hi there.
Seeing as the laptop is only 5 months old it is still covered by the manufacturers warranty, the clicking sound you can hear is the hard drive failing, the hard drive is hardware and IS covered by the warranty.
Send it back to HP it won't cost you anything to have it repaired.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

My computer is saying that the system is not fully installed and all I want to do is to resite it to its factory settings

Which operating system ?????.....
The HP Recovery Partition that comes pre-installed on most new HPs is like built-in insurance if your system becomes unstable or fails.
If the problem is severe enough, you may not be able to start the HP Desktop Recovery Manager from Windows but you can start it manually by following the steps below.

Disconnect all peripheral devices and power on the computer.
Press the F11 key after the computer first powers on to start the HP Recovery Manager.

Follow the on-screen instructions to back up recoverable files on the hard drive to an external drive or media.
Continue following the instructions to recover the hard drive to its original factory condition.
Click "Finish" when the recovery is complete.
Reconnect devices and reboot the computer.
Reinstall software and update Windows and HP to current settings.

HP Pavilion Recovery Partition
Accessing the recovery partition on your HP Pavilion laptop allows you to restore your computer to speed it up, eliminate a virus or repair your Windows operating system.
The Recovery Manager program makes it possible to restore your laptop to its settings as of a previous date or restore your computer to its original factory settings, which will erase all of your installed programs and personal data.
Using the recovery partition allows you to bypass the hassle of keeping track of recovery discs, which could be damaged in storage, rendering them useless when you need them.

Turn on or restart your HP Pavilion laptop.
Press "F11" when the "Press <F11> for recovery" message appears during the HP Pavilion boot process.
Select "Recovery Manager" from your list of recovery options and press "Enter."

My hp pavilion dv6700 starts and says downloading files and the screen just stays black.

Make sure there is not a screensaver at work here. If this continues, restart the computer in safe mode and go through your start up programs to see if one is interfering with system operation. If you can not get to safe mode you may need to get to the HP restore process to repair the system. Look for the option during initial start up, then follow on screen prompts.

The laptop is a dv6700 HP Pavillion. What steps should I take to solve this issue.

About it being an HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop?
Ehhh, giveittome. I will use it.

Looks like I'm going to have to guess since the 'Issue' wasn't stated.

The main problem with the Pavilion dv6700, which is part of the Pavilion dv6000 series of Notebook PC's, is that all the indicator lights come up, but there are no graphics being shown on the LCD screen.
The screen is black.

This is due to a graphics chipset problem, caused by a poor cooling design of HP designers.

The graphics chipset (GPU. Graphics Processing Unit), is mounted to the motherboard in a BGA surface mount.

Instead of pins coming off of the bottom of the chipset, as on the older Processors, there are Solder Balls.

The motherboard has tiny copper pads that line up to the solder balls.
The graphics chipset is set into place, then heat is used to melt the solder balls, and attach the graphics chipset to the motherboard.

Due to the poor cooling design, the graphics chipset overheats, and the solder connections are partially melted.
The graphics chip now has a poor contact to the motherboard.

My pavilion dv6700 won't turn on. The lights come on then the fan starts only to all shut off and then continue the same process.

HI there. We'll I hate being the barer of bad news but the HP DV series of laptops have been having a lot of issues with losing video, continually restarting, or just plain do nothing. Hopefully your laptop is still under warranty or someone else knows of a quick fix. I've had to send out the motherboards for 2 of these to get fixed. One of them ended up being the video card on the board. And the other ended up becoming a replacement motherboard.

Here is a link to what other people are having to deal with on their Hp's.

HP Pavilion dv6700 has system failure when connecting to TV

Try updating ALL Video Card & HDMI Drivers from manufacturers web site, that will probably be the best chance at a fix, this is a driver issue. Connect up this way... Start TV... plug in Cable to TV & PC, now, startup PC.
