Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

Acer Aspire 5100 Stuck in eRecovery boot loop.

I installed windows 7 on my Aspire 5100 and then decided that I didnt need it. I tried to do the normal way to get to eRecovery (AltF10) and it wouldnt go. So I downloaded a partition manager and set the partition that has eRecovery as active. It booted straight to the eRecovery manager and I completed that. The problem is, it continues to boot to the same partition every time and since windows xp is not set up yet, I can't even start it in safe mode. Is there any way that I can switch the partitions back to the default so xp setup will load?

You are going to need a boot up partition manager likeon the Ultimate Boot CD (ultimatebootcd.com). Boot to it, go into the partition program, then set the active partition back. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

If you have a win98 boot disk, you always boot from that and on the command line type in FDISK. After you get into the program, you can set the active partition back to the primary partition so it boots into windows.

To reinstall you need an external DVDROM drive and run directly the windows 7 installer as boot up disk. Because it need to run alone as boot up disk and surely it will not run when you just copy the files to external HDD.

Hi, I do apologize for the inconvenience you have been facing. The reason why the laptop does not reboot to Windows even after reinstalling Windows is because the issue is with the hard drive not being recognized the reason for which you get a blinking line on the screen after the Acer logo .In this case I would suggest that if the laptop is under warranty please contact the Acer Technical support and have an order placed for repair.
Thank you for your time and best wishes for your effort.

If the hard drive has been replaced and another OS has been installed then you can't do eRecovery
on this unit but you can download all the drivers from Acer and do a backup when done installing the drivers and applications from acer'
Burn this back up to disc or put on a memory stick,

You may need it in the future ......

Acer Aspire 5100 will not boot from ****

The best way to handle this is to completely reformat the drive again, to rid win 7 and the bad XP, and to then re-install XP from the DVD all anew. Any other way is just going to cause hassles trust me.

Acer Aspire 3680 In a Loop

What I wanted you to clarify was the message that you noted as "something to the effect of 'Beginning of physical damage'", but you only saw it the one time I see on rereading the post, so never mind.

Have you tried doing a factory restore using the recovery media? Try pressing Alt + F10 on booting to get to eRecovery Management.
