Question about Dell Latitude C610 Notebook

1 Answer

My dell keyboard keys do not work according to what is printed on the key. The problem occurred after i formatted it some time back. The question mark key is located at the top right of the keyboard near the backspace. Now the question mark key workd when i press the key located with the right shift key (as it is present in most normal keyboards) Seems this keyboard needs some special driver to be installed. I have win XP. Please help me out

The problem is not that simple but i would be really happy if someone helps me solve my problem.

I will explain it again, more extensively this time.

The keyboard with C 610 has around 83 keys ( i have counted them). Windows detects it as 101/102 key standard ps2 keboard ( i dont know what the hell is this ps2? isnt it the one with which you attach any external keyboard?

What i think is that there should be a driver with this keyboard that makes it recognize as 83 key.

Plus there is another problem. the keys printed on my keyboard is NOT LIKE NORMAL / USUAL KEYBOARDS. its different from other C610s too. e.g. the question mark key is located with the zero (0) key on the top right and not near the right shift button as it appears on most keyboards.

there are other such examples too.. i can give u if u want to know more...

    thanks for the help anyways

    Hi there.
It sounds like the keyboard settings are set to a different country, if you go to the control panel and select keyboard, you should be able to set the keyboard layout to US or UK depending on which country you live in.
post back if you cannot find the settings

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

You may have changed the Keyboard from a QWERTY format to the English or Euro keyboard format. Right click on the lower right of the screen "TIME" and Date. Here you can select the Adjust date and time. Look and see if your settings are correct, time, zone, and language. Adjust accordingly.

My Dell XPS L502 laptop keyboard locks up?

Instructions

1

Buy a can of compressed air and spray it on the keyboard if your keys are sticking together. This is the easiest thing you can do to fix the keys on your keyboard. It doesn't work for all problems, but it's a good place to start. Make sure you get the air down inside the keys to clean out any debris, hair or food that may have gotten caught in there.
2

Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with Dell keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place become loose or broken. You can find a cheap keyboard from Wal-Mart or an electronics store. Simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off your keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

3Use a small dab of super glue to replace keys that have fallen off. Dell laptops often have keys that fall off, especially as the computer ages or is used quite frequently. Place a small dab of glue directly on the round part that holds the key in place and lightly press the key down. When the glue dries, you'll be able to use your laptop again.
4

Remove any problem keys from your keyboard and look at the plastic retainers. At times these retainers can become broken, damaged or simply fall off. Carefully pull off the retainer, clean it off with some compressed air and snap it back into place. Then put the key back into the slot and everything should work fine.
5

Consult the Dell manuals website to get information on your specific laptop computer. The manual will include information on troubleshooting and repairing any problems with your laptop. If you find that none of their suggestions work, you can also use the website to find the customer service number. You'll need to call the number and ask for help or advice.

HOW TO DEACTIVATE TEH Fn KEY IN DELL LAPTOP

Hi names Rui, to turn Fn in you dell you need to:

1. Open your laptop and turn it on. Then locate the Fn key. It is located on the lower left side of the keyboard, next to the Ctrl key.

2. Press and release the Fn key. Now examine the keyboard carefully. You'll notice that many of the keys have icons or letters and numbers printed in blue upon them. These keys and functions are operated when the Fn key is enabled, as you've just done. Test it out by looking at the lower right side of the keyboard. You'll see two keys with small blue "sun" icons. These control the brightness of the screen. Press the lower one several times and you'll see the screen darken. Press the upper one. The screen brightens.

3. Press and release the Fn key again. Now try using the brightness keys. The screen brightness will not change. You've turned off the Fn key.

The Fn key (also known as the Function key) is a feature found on most laptop computers. The Fn key allows keys on a laptop computer's keyboard to serve more than one function, a clever way of increasing the utility of the keyboard when space is limited. Dell laptops make good use of the Fn key, and if you own a Dell laptop, you should be aware of where the key is and how to use it. So i hope this will help you.

I cannot do a Print Screen with my Dell Latitude d610. I have tried all combinations of Ctrl+Prnt scrn and Fn+Prnt scrn. Any idea's?

Based on your keyboard layout, you don't need a key combination to capture your screen. Just press the "Print Scrn" button and your screen image will be copied to your clipboard. Now if you have pressed the "Print Scrn" key, go to MS Paint or any other image processing programs and "paste" it there.

Notice that your "Print Scrn" key is printed on top of the keyboard key and in white color. That means that it is the default key when pressed so there is no need to combine with Fn or shift. But if it is printed in blue or orange (your Fn key should be in blue or orange also) that is the time you need a key combination.

Some keys stop working on keyboard

The particular keyboardpart must have gone. I had his problem with my Dell some years back. I removed the entire laptop, removed and reinstalled teh keyboard wire to the motherboard..and the problem did not arise. Happens whenever over heating occurs.
