What is the maximum memory capacity for the MX6027 model ?

Hello Marc,

The maximum is 1 GB. Standard, it comes installed with 256 MB but you upgrade with additional 256 MB or 512 MB memory modules. The modules you are looking for are:

256 MB DDR (1 x 256 MB) SODIMM (PC2700) 2.5v SYNC
512 MB DDR (1 x 256 MB) SODIMM (PC2700) 2.5v SYNC

There are lots of places on the web to find decent prices for this memory. I have included a few below.

http://www.memorystock.com/memory/GatewayMX6027.html

http://www.pcmemorystore.com/Gateway-M_Series_Notebooks-MX6027-ram.htm

http://www.computermemoryoutlet.com/Gateway-M_Series_Notebooks-MX6030-memory.htm

This document includes instructions for replacing the memory. It's a simple straightforward process.

Hope this helps.

Have a blessed day.

If the single memory modules you installed worked in the same slot, then the second slot might either be defective or need to be cleaned.

My problem started out pretty confusing. One day I turned my lap top on and the screen, after about five to ten seconds of being on, went black. I could see things loading up sort of but the screen was too...

Darkened screen as you describe indicates a failing inverter. You can test this easily by plugging the laptop into an external monitor, if this works ok, then the inverter needs replaced, If it does not work, the problem is with the graphics chip / motherboard

I just put new ram in my dell studio 17 lap top. now when i turn it on the volume keys light up and the volume down key flashes.. the screen doesn't turn on, i put the old ram back in and it does the same...

Man, i had the exact same problem. Only i didn't put a new RAM, but i did remove mine. After i read your problem i went back and made sure my RAM cards were pushed in as far as they could go ( not so forcefully that something might break, but just enough) put everything back together and BOOM! it booted up. Hope this helps, let me know.
