Thank you Philiplys, thats very helpful, I just need to find spare parts for this machine now.
I spoke with Miele and they didn't really have any clue - especially about the plate that seems to be on the roof of the inside of the microwave.
They suggested the replacement model M8151 at nearly £500.

Lets hope the spares are a little cheaper.
    Once again - thanks

    Hi Philip
I've tried again and again but Miele will not give out a parts list, however they have sent me an exploded diagram of the machine itself.
I believe the guy I was speaking with has highlighted what 'may' be needed after repeating your thoughts of what could be wrong with the machine.
I may just bite the bullet and buy some parts.....
Thanks for your help, if you would like a copy I can email it to you.

    Kind regards

I've got a Miele microwave and I had that very same problem. On the top of the cooking chamber there's a round mica insulator. That insulator covers a wave spreader, that is basically a aluminium fan mounted on a teflon spindle. What happens is that the spreader is either bent or loose. As the microwave runs, the spreader gets electrically charged (charged by the microwaves cooking your food) and when in gets too close to the metal chassis, a spark jumps from the spreader to the chassis.

The way to fix it is quite simple: you have to remove the mica insulator by unscrewing some philips-headed screws from the inside of your oven (if they happen to be stuck, just remove the cover of the microwave and WD-40 the nuts where they're screwed on). Then, you'll see the cheap aluminum spreder. Either screw it tight or bend it a bit so that it doesn't touch the chassis at any time or the mica insulator. Put the mica back in, screw it down gently and smile.

Miele and other microwave manufacturers are very unhelpful, they only want their engineers to carry out the repairs. however they are required to make spares available for 10 years after the last .

    production date.

you need to keep on to them and request a spare parts list and then request the part from them

best of luck keep me informed

A hole has appeared in the panel of the roof of my Miele microwave oven model H4060BM type MW6004 is this dangerous and can it be repaired?

If the hole is in the wave guide cover, that can be replaced. After removing it, you would need to inspect the inside of the wave guide, and clean it if there is food or grease in it. If any arcing has occurred, damaging the paint, it needs to be repainted.

If the hole is in the metal part of the cavity itself, that can be dangerous, and it's generally impractical to repair.

I have a Miele h5080bm microwave oven. How can I clean the grease of the roof and sides of the microwave?

You can put a microwave safe bowl of water in the oven and heat it to boiling, stop the microwave, then leave the bowl of water in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes. The steam will loosen the dirt and grease and then it can be wiped with a damp sponge. More stubborn grease my need dish soap on the sponge and a little more elbow grease. Rinse it well with a clean sponge or dish cloth and warm water.

My microwave is about 7 years old and has recently started sparking when I heat things in it. Can it be saved or is it best to buy a new one?

sparking usually relates to i) using metal in the cavity or ii) some burnt food on the roof iii) the waveguide cover 'mica' panel is burning iv) door area enamel has been damaged. After 7 years you may want to bin it and get a new one as they are now so cheap, fixing them is usually more expensive.

Sparks when micro turned on. it appears the pannel

Yes if you can find someone to supply it as a spare part. Clean any grease or debris from behind it too. Often there are little plastic rivets that hold it on. You might as well order them too. If it burnt too bad there will be a carbonisation on the panel too which must be cleaned off as it will attract the microwave energy.

Before ordering anything, remove the burnt panel and run the microwave with just a cup of water in it to make sure it still works fine.

Whatever you do, do not open up a microwave oven cabinet, they are very dangerous inside. If you cant remove the panel from within the cooking cavity then leave well alone and get an engineer to look at it.

My miele microwave is blowing the house fuse once pluged in to power point. Any idea why?

Their is a live wire which contact to the metal body so it contact to the earth cable. This can be by a loose wire, a burn heating element or a burn motor. All the above can lead to direct contact of alive cable mean power cable to earth so the house fuse which is the earth protector is driping off.
Your oven definiatly need to be open and check by and electrician.
Good luck

Start button intermittent eg press many times (maybe 20) to start

Problem identified as plastic pushbutton on control panel, solution: interchanged with turntable on/off button (nevrer used). Had paid Miele €115 call out (for person who knew nothing about microwaves), Miele operate a closed shop. Local repair service say Miele will not supply parts, Miele designated repair agent will not repair microwaves, Miele will only send "engineer" to customer, no drop off facility. Was forced into buying new microwave oven from Miele as only way of recouping callout charge. Subsequently had a go myself with above positive positive result - now have a spare microwave cooker.

Sparks in oven

the burning is normally caused by a small particle of food getting stuck on the waveguide cover, this then carbonises and starts to arc. replacing cover should return oven to normal
