Unfortunately, neither Aztech nor Motorola will hand out details about their chipsets and implementations, which is making it impossible to write drivers.
Hopeless, unless the manufacturers provide either precompiled modules (as PCTel did) or details about their products - which is simply not going to happen anytime soon. Apart from that, these software modems do not work reliably enough in a multitasking, multiuser environment, anyways.

Hey Mariusz,
I'm in a similar position myself, trying to get the Aztech MR8800 working under Linux. Problem is the SM56 chipset doesn't implement modulation/demodulation, but rather delegates it to a software driver.
You can get a generic modem driver from # which implements V21 and V23, with V34 coming "Some Time Real Soon". You'll still need a separate driver to allow the linmodem driver to communicate with the SM56.
I'm doing some research in this direction, and will let you know if I make any headway.
Regards, Ian

The thing that should be outlawed is hardware without interface documentation. For many years BH (before Hayes) modems had widely varying interfaces, via registers etc., much like driving a UART chip. As long as we knew what bit to flip (and which not to flip) to make them go online etc. they were perfectly usable, albeit a pain in the butt.
Winmodems are essentially a throwback to BH.
