Installation I have my lifecam installed already, but when the wizard is doing the search, it comes up cant find my usb camera. I have xp and installing it on my laptop

Please, check if your Operating System is compatible with your camera, because if not you will have to update.

• Start>right click Computer>Properties; you will see the first line "Windows Edition" under which you can see which is your Operating System and all the information about it.
  
• The camera you have is compatible with Windows 7, but can also work with at least Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista.
• If your Operating System is older then the above, you will have to update: go to www.microsoft.com and click on downloads, choose your program (XP, Vista, et.), and in the first tab after loading the page you will see the latest update (for example: If XP, you will see download tab for Service Pack 3; if Vista, you will see download tab for Service Pack 2)
• You can also update using Windows Update: Start>type Windows Update in the search box>Enter>Check for Updates. Install updates and restart your computer.
• If you do not have the driver for installing your camera, please go to

and see video on how to install your camera. You can also download the driver, BUT make sure you choose the right one for your Operating System-compare drivers on the site and your System info (see step 1).

Place the product installation CD in the CD drive of your computer. The installation wizard will start automatically. Follow the installation wizard prompts.

Plug the USB connector at the end of the LifeCam VX-1000 connection cable into an available USB port on your computer when prompted.

Place the LifeCam VX-1000 on a flat, level surface, or hang it from your computer's monitor. Continue following the wizard prompts until the installation wizard finishes.

Click the "Start" button, then click "All Programs" on the Start menu.

Click the "Microsoft LifeCam" folder icon in the list of programs on the Start menu, then click the "LifeCam" icon. That opens the LifeCam VX 1000 software and completes the installation process.

if you have the suitable driver ...install it first without plug-in the camera ...than restart and plug it ...if the pc doesn't ding and see the cam automatically ...go to control panel and initiate the add new hardware wizard...I believe its the second or 3rd icon on xp ...after that ...choose in that wizard the option that you already added the device but not yet installed ...it will search for such devis\ces and show you all ....click on the camera ...and after that choose to install it automatically ...it will find the already installed driver and make it functional ....if the camera is not seen at all after this procedure( I mean into the wizard...) try to change the usb port ...and verify the batteries,,, remember that camera have to be powered and on view pictures mode ....if its more complex it may also ask you on teh camera display to confirm the intention to connect to pc...Good luck !

There may be a clash between lifecam and MSN. close MSN and alll other IMs. uninstall lifecam. restart the PC, install webcam SW with the cam unplugged. After installation plug the cam ina USB port and let Windows read the drivers and install the cam, Once that is done, now you can configure the cam in your IMs one by one.

What system are you using?

Try doing a Google search "LifeCam VX3000 installation" and seeing if any of the documents listed helps you. I am not sure what OS you are using (Windows XP or Vista? Linux? Another?) Others have reported problems too. Be careful about which you do first during setup. Some systems require installing drivers/software BEFORE you plug in the camera, and some require you to install software/drivers AFTER you plug in the camera.

Unplug camera usb and run downloaded software.

Follow instruction from software setup wizard.

The simple solution to this problem is that no drivers are required. This camera is treated as a removable (secondary) drive just as if it was a USB thumb drive or external hard drive.
First go to settings on the camera by rotating the dial to the wrench icon.
Turn the camera on and select Set-Up 2
Select USB
Select PC
Your camera is now ready to use with your computer.
Now plug your camera into your computer and check under My Computer for the drive to show. You can now copy files over to your computer from the camera.
If the drive isn't showing you'll have to go into Disk Management to view it
Disk Management is under Administrartive Tools located in your Control Panel (or Start Menu if you have it set to show there)
Select Administrative Tools
Computer Management
On the left hand side click Disk Management (or on the right click Storage then Disk Management)
Finally you can now Right Click the cameras drive and chose Open
