I bought my laptop 1,6 year ago.

When I’m switching on I can hear the small ‘air con’ which is inside the laptop and when I open the DVD compact disc and close it back (usually it was doing 2 runs) now is trying but can not!!!! I can not see anything on a screen….doesn’t switch on….it’s black. The only thing which is working is the blue light- which mean that is on, everything else is off!!!

Before I had a problem….with my camera…..when I was trying to switch it on it was telling me that I need online support and after that small black box was staying on my screen for 20 min before turn down. Unfortunately I haven’t got internet so I couldn’t connect. But i never had any problem like that.

I didn’t try external display….can you tell me how I should do that?

    Thank you for your help

How old is the laptop? Do you hear any noises when you press the on-off switch? Did you have any display problems, such as a dim display, before this happened?

If you are hearing some of the start-up type noises, but seeing nothing, can you get hold of an external display and see if anything is showing up on it?

If you are hearing any normal start-up noises, does the screen change from completely black to very dark grey?

The more info,. the better the diagnosis!

I don't have that model, but the layout is probably similar to mine. On the left hand side near the screen there is a blue socket where you can plug a VGA monitor, or, on the same side (on mine) there is a round socket where you can plug in an S-video cable and connect that to some types of TV set. Plug in any external monitor before attempting to start the computer, and the computer should pick up the new device. If that doesn't work, you may need to press the Fn key + F5.

If your computer isn't like this, you will need to check the handbook which should have come with it.

I was wondering whether it was a total failure to power up, or a display problem. The commonest display issues have to do with the back light or the inverter, and they are more likely to fail slowly over several hours rather than fail catastrophically, but that can happen.

But if the hard drive doesn't seem to be spinning up either, it does suggest that something else is to blame, and probably not the drive itself, otherwise the computer would try to boot and then fail with a message that no operating system could be found.

So, what you are telling me doesn't sound really wonderful. If you can't even get the Toshiba splash screen on an external monitor when you try it, my suspicion would be that your laptop is, to use a technical term, kaput.

But it could still be recoverable; however you would need to take it to a laptop repairer for a thorough physical.

Why Toshiba Satellite A665 Laptop won't start?

Have you tried pressing space bar (maybe its in hibernation mode) ?

or try holding power button for a few seconds (10) then turn it back on.

as a last resort you could try take the battery out, disconnect it from the power adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then place the battery back in and the power adapter and try powering it on?

Satellite l30-101, wont switch on, have replaced the battery and also the power cable but still wont switch on

If you've replaced the battery, AND power cable (I assume you replaced the entire AC Adaptor), then most likely the power board needs to be replaced in the laptop. Most of the time, this is fixed to the motherboad, therefore the motherboard would need to be replaced.
I suggest you having someone who has the experience doing this do it, or take it to a repair shop.... or chuck it and buy a new one =).

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934. I left it on last night and this morning I attempted to turn it on. The system seems to be turning on, but the screen has failed to turn on. this is the first...

Turn it completely off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds, remove the battery (make sure it's unpluged) now put the battery back and try again, sounds like a hibernation issue and its not turning off completely. hope this helps

Froze up last night, turned off, will not turn on now

Try removing the laptop from A/C power, remove the battery, then hold the on/off switch in the ON position for ten seconds. Replace the battery, plug in to A/C and try booting. Laptop may be frozen in 'sleep' state; I have seen this problem with other Toshiba's before.
