Question about Canon PowerShot S45 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Nchatta Hello, My Canon s45 was working perfectly until it was dropped from a very very small heigh in a soft leather case with protection. The camera works in the sense that it can read and display the images from the SD card perfectly, the lense extends but you cannot see anything on the LCD when wanting to take a picture bar a white box in the middle that usually turns green once focussed (but now doesn't.) The screen is just black. The shutter clicks, takes the picture, but just a black LCD screen. Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem I went to the canon service department and they told me that its a common problem and the image sensor has to be change it will cost me 160.00 depending on the area where I'm getting it done so for me it's better to buy a new one.

I am using canon photo shot S45. but when I am going to connect in my PC with data cable it's not working at all. I don't have any disk to take support to connect the USB drive, in this case what can I do?

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I can't shut it down, the lens stays out and won't close

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.
