When i start my compaq presario f700 it loads to the presario screen while a buzzing sound(sounds like a busy tone) then it loads on a black screen operating system not found. The only other screen i can access is the bios utility screen. When i try a hard disk self test it states there is no ide device. I cannot change the order of the boot devices. I do not have the recovery disks as well. Is there anything i can do?
Check HDD power and IDE cable carefully. Better replace them. Open BIOS. Do you see your HDD on BIOS ? Do you hear any sound from your HDD ? Do your HDD produce some heat ? If no, replace your HDD with new one. If yes you need to repair your BOOT file and MBR. Do you have any XP installation CD ? If not collect now. If yes, boot from CD. follow instruction and press 'R' to enter recovery console. Give password , leave blank if none. Select os by pressing 1 (in single boot). Now in command prompt type this two command one by one "fixboot" and "fixmbr" without quote. Type y to if required. Than type exit to exit recovery console.
If this does not solve the problem, you must give a fresh OS install. Keep informing.
I've gist had the same problem after flashing bios ...
go to BIOS and change the SATA mode to IDE. it worked for me.
