You should download and istall the Device Manager sofware from here:
After that run Device Manager and connect your player via USB. Device Manager should say, that your player reported an error and would you like to repair it. Press "yes" to start repair.
If the Device Manager doesn't give you the option to repair, you should turn off the player and connect it by pressing the volume up (+) button. This will turn on the automatic repair mode. After that, everything goes as I've written before.
Connect player to pc and power, restart player while holding the volume
+ key, as soon as the player shuts off, press and hold the volume -
key, your device manager will pop up and tell you the player needs repair, let it do so.
Connect your player to the pc that has the Philips device manager
running, then reset the player by holding the off-switch and the
volume-+ (plus) switch.
As soon as the player shuts off, press and
hold the volume- - (minus) switch. The Philips device manager will
recognize the player now, and recommend a repair, do so.
If you have a Philips HDD Series, it will not work with Windows Vista or Windows Media Player 11 except for briefly, then the player will stop working one day. Your only hope is to use it with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 - it is, basically, an obsolete player at this point in time.
