Clean the lens with a cleaning disc or open the burner and clean manually with a soft cloth. Check the IDE cable, if possible replace it. If these procedure did not solve, replace the burner with a new one.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop computer. I recently noticed that when I inserted a music CD into the drive, that it would not play or even recognize it in the My Computer window. I can still play DVDs...

The Cd player my be dirty, you can get disks you put in there to clean them. Also sometimes the players are just picky and don't like certain CD's..... I'll build brand new PC's that only read some CD right from the start.

Make sure your disks are clean to, with no fingerprints.

I lost my BIOS Password on my Laptop it is DELL inspirion 1501 please help ..mike

Hi,

Check it.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Download the cd iso and burn it to a cd using your favorite program.

Insert the CD into the drive and boot your computer. You will then be brought to a screen in which you will be asked to download the drivers, select your partition, select you username, and change the password.

Hope this helps

Hi. Problem with Dell Inspiron 1501 Model No PP23LA. I blundered into using the Operating reinstallation dvd & ended up deleting all partitions & installing XP media centre edition all over again,...

NO....
disk supplied by Dell will only help you restore in an emergency....that too if your system is enabled the restore option...before your blunder....
i suggest you re-do the full PC as per my adivse....

first u must make a backup of your critical data if u have any on ur pc on DVD disks....DONT use pendrive...
since ur laptop is in working condition u can do the following in this laptop itself....else u may have to use another PC....
1st go to my shared drive (link below) and download this application....
http://www.4shared.com/file/gTU7Zdj3/boot-cd-iso.html

this is a rar file, unzip this file with winrar....the folder that winzip will create will have a self burn software called "ISO-Burner"

insert a blank CD in the drive (i guess ur laptop has a CD/DVD writer) else u will need another PC to write a CD....

click on the ISO-Burner, it's a self create burn application...it will create a bootable CD with the needed applications....

to wipe ur disk....clean...

.... u must ensure that the CD drive is the 1st boot drive in BIOS ( i guess u know how to do it)
keep the boot cd in the CD drive...switch off and switch on again...and let it boot from the CD....wait...wait...
it will boot and load an application that will have some tools to make the disk factory fit....
select application KILLDISK...on the left panel...select F10 to wipe your disk clean....type in ..."erase-my-data"....and wait...wait...
the process will take aprox 5 hrs for a 100 gb disk....wait and have patience....so if you HD is 200 gb it will be more than 11 hrs to finish....
once done you can replace the cd with the WinXP disk, make partitions, format and create different drives as per you needs and make you machine as good as new...
for more info on how to format and use WinXP pls visit my site
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com

pls revert back and leave a feedback and rating for the solution....it will help me become a "Guru" here on Fixya....
all the best
regards....

My dell laptop inspiron 1501 not burning or reading cds

Hi,

Please try with any bootable disk,if the system is not booting with the disk then the issue is with the ODD and it needs to be replaced(be sure that first boot device is cdrom in BIOS).

If booting then go to device manager and uninstall the cd/dvdROM drive and secondary IDE controllers and restart the system twice and check.

If fails then lens went bad and CD ROm drive needs to be replaced.

Just bought an Ematic 1.5%22 Color 4GB MP3/4 Video Player and the driver disk it came with about 3'' wide much smaller than a std cd so i cant use it. where can i get the driver and anything else to make...

You should be able to use the small diameter disk. The disk can be inserted in the CD/DVD drive just like a normal size CD/DVD disk, it locks onto the spindle on the laptop's CD/DVD drive. The laser reads from the center of the disk.

I had the same issue and finally - after coming across your question via google- got frustrated enough to start clicking thingsand hoping for the best. Lo! After six months of my Inspirion sticking a loaded disc drive at me like a two year old would their tongue, I have solved the problem somehow.

I don't know what the hell I'm doing with computers, never taken a class; but like any tool or living thing, sometimes things just want attention and will act up to get it. Here's how I convinced it to work:

By disabling the DVD-ROM device, resetting the system, and re-enabling said device, I successfully solved the problem. In case you aren't 100% sure how to go about that, I have supplied a step-by-step guide which I wrote as if it were for my father - a proud caveman.

1.) From your Computer folder, right click drive E: and select properties.

2.) Enter the 'Hardware' tab, highlight the Sony CDRWDVD device (I'm assuming we have the same software), or whatever appears to be your actual DVDROM reader.

3.) Hit the 'Properties' button near the bottom of the window, enter the 'Driver' tab on the next pop-up.

4.) Find your 'Disable' button and push it with no fear in your heart.

5.) Close out of both pop-ups, and Vista will present you with the option to Restart your laptop.

6.) Say yes, and get something to drink while you wait.

7.) Enjoy your drink.

8.) Now that the system has restarted, return to your Computer folder. You will notice that Drive E: is absent.

9.) Trust me.

10.) Right-click anywhere on the folder besides on an icon and select properties. This will take you to Control Panel > System & Maintenance > System

11.) So long as you're with me still, you will see a list of options on the right side of the window. Select 'Device Manager.'

12.) Find the DVD/CD-ROM Devices icon, click the plus sign to expand. Find the device which you previously disabled (again, mine is SONY CDRWDVD CRX880A ATA DEVICE), right click, and select 'Enable'.

13.) Is an unlucky number to finish on.

14.) You're back in business!

As with anything in computers, there are thousand ways to do the same thing, so I have merely opted to write this list in precisely the order I did things. If it doesn't work, feel free to contact me @ DigitalGrampa@Gmail.com with any sort of abuse.

Reading Data CD's

Hmmm... were the cd's originally burned using that laptop? Or were they burned on a different pc?

It could be as simple as your cdrom doesnt like something about those cd's. Or it could be a flakey cdrom.

My suggestion, try reburning them to a different brand of disk using a different pc. Then see if your laptop will read them. If not, may need to replace the cdrom. Though it reads commercially manufactured cd's, if its flakey, it will have problems reading custom made cd's.

Other option, get a usb flash drive and copy those files from that cd, in a different pc, to the flash drive.

You don't need any special drivers or programs in order to copy mp3 files from a cd to your hard drive. Yet, you would need something in order to play them. Which media player does just fine.

Flakey cdrom or flakey cd's... hope this helps.
