Question about Mitsubishi WD-57731 57" Projection HDTV
I have a Mitsubishi WD-57731 DLP HD TV. Purchased February 2007 just two years old.
To help with a diagnosis I will cover all problems starting four months back.
The TV is connected to:
HDMI 1 Direct TV HD DVR via a HDMI cable, tv speakers are off and have never been used.
HDMI 2 Toshiba combo VHS-DVD recorder VHS part of the machines video is connected to input 1
Input 2 is connected via s-video to the audio receiver for the on screen display for that device.
It has had a few problems over the past four months.
The first problem was picture loss and the red lamp indicator would flash. Indicating a failed lamp.
Tried the TV the next day and everything was fine for a few days then the same occurrence lost picture with failed lamp indicator. I ordered a new lamp but have yet to replace it as this problem has not occurred again.
Two weeks later I changed out our old VHS-DVD recorder to a newer Toshiba VHS-DVD Recorder. This was working fine for a week or so but then when I would switch from HDMI 2 DVD to back to the Satellite HDMI 1 I would get a blinking static display. Two to three seconds on and off. I had to turn off all connected components and the TV then back on to get the picture back.
This happened three or four times and only when switching from HDMI 2 back to HDMI 1.
It was then I decided to unplug the TV and open it up and using canned air blew the dust buildup out checked for anything out of the ordinary like a moth or other insect cooked on a circuit board. Cleaned all vents and fans from dust and put it back together. For the past six weeks the TV has been flawless since the cleaning.
Two days ago I had a recurrence of the blinking static screen when switching from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1.
Today another problem happened. We had been watching the TV for several hours and just by coincidence as I stopped the on demand movie we had watched, a 2 inch horizontal black bar appeared on the entire upper part of the screen along with a very thin bright white vertical line on the right hand side of the screen. The picture is still displaying around these lines just not through them.
I have turned everything off and back on, hit the system reset on the TV left it off and unplugged it for several minutes and it has not corrected itself.
This is an ongoing problem with Mitsubishi DLP HDTV's contact the Customer Service at 1-800-332-211. Tell them this has been going on for a while and you want the TV either Fixed or Replaced. Ask for Adrianne Hardt, she is a Customer Service Manager...... TELL HER RICK GRIFFITH told you to call.
I am in the 4th week negociations with Mitsubishi over these exact problems. I purchased my 57" DLP HDTV in Aug of 06. Replaced the Lamp 3 times and have had 5 Service calls. I DO NOT have and extended Warranty. Mitsubishi provided me with the extention in writing and stated if any problem occurred again they would replace the Unit or provided monetary compensation.
