Question about Konica Minolta magicolor 2300DL Laser Printer

12 Answers

Switch Magicolor 2300 from offline to online.

Printer (Magicolor 2300 DL) is not printing from either computer networked to it. The printers screen shows it as ready, but when the job is sent a message comes up that it failed to print, and the print queue indicates the printer is offline. I have tried deleting the printer and reinstalling (the computer finds the printer with no difficulty) with no success. The network address seems to be correct (computer and printer show the same address).

I tried the suggestion to delete everything about the printer, unplug it, then reinstall from the CD. The problem is still there.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

Right click on printer shows that it is already online (but it still comes up in the print queue as offline).

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

When I said that the printer and computer show the same IP address, I meant that the computer shows the IP for the printer the same as the printer shows on its own configuration printout. The computer itself has a different address. I have contacted the manufacturer previously, but it took a long time to get a reply. I was hoping for a faster response.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

"Automatically search for network folders and printers" was already selected. Turning off the power save on the printer did not help.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

I don't know of "Tools" except in IE, and it shows working online.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

The printer is not communicating with any program or either computer. Another printer on the same network is working normally.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

I had turned off DHCP a couple of years ago at the advice of a computer technician when I had a previous computer/printer communication problem. But I tried changing to it just now with no success.

  • hawnstudio Feb 25, 2009

Now that I tried turning on the DHCP, I don't know how to reset the static IP. I also don't know where to locate the RAM.

  • hawnstudio Feb 26, 2009

Some of the solutions are a little beyond my area of reasonable competence. I don't think I am sure how to find the router IP, submask, and gateway. I went to ipconfig--is that correct? If I configure the printer with that IP address, I get a message that it creates a conflict. If I put in the Subnet mask and gateway there and the printer's IP address as shown at the computer, the printer just doesn't respond. Am I doing this wrong?

  • hawnstudio Feb 26, 2009

I just noticed that all the other printer icons have a cupped hand under the printer, but the one for the Magicolor doesn't. I couldn't find anything explaining what that means.

  • hawnstudio Feb 26, 2009

So far nothing has worked, but I appreciate all the suggestions. If anyone has further insight, please advise.

  • hawnstudio Feb 27, 2009

The Magicolor 2300DL is made by Konica Minolta.

The only firewall on the computer is the WinXP firewall, which is on. Printers are listed as an exception, and another printer on the network works normally.

    Question...
Dis you recently install a new security program on the computers?? If yes then the firewall would be blocking access to the printing services.

try disbeling the security program or uninstalling it to test and see if it works.

Never heard of a magicolor is that an HP or an epson or is that a obscure brand?

Let me know how it goes

I just noticed you comment about the cupped hand. It means that the other printers are shared over the network.

To share the printer you need to right click on the icon and click on properties and go to the sharing tab and enable sharing.

    Hi again,

YOU CAN KEP DOING ALL THE JAZZ IN SUGGESTED OR TRY ONE SMALL THING AND SE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

UNINSTALL YOUR SECURITY PROGRAM ON ONE COMPUTER (LIKE NORTON, MCAFEE, ETRUST, OR NAY OTHER FIREWALLS).

    UNINSTALL THE PRINTER SOFTWARE
    REBOOT
    AND REINSTALL.

THIS SHOULD WORK LIKE A CHARM.

IF THIS WORKS YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE VENDOR OF THE FIREWALL OR SECURITY PROGRAM AND ASK THEM TO MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR YOUR PRINTER IN THEIR FIREWALL.

    I HOPE THIS FIXES IT.

    PLEASE RATE
    THANKS

Ok, so you have 2 computers and now 2 printers on your network. Try "pinging" the IP address of the 2300. To ping, go to "Start", "Run", type in "cmd" (no quotes), hit enter, type in "ping 192.168.1.200" NOTE: space between the word ping and the IP address. Don't use 192.168.1.200, that's just an example, use the printer's actual IP. You should get 4 reply's. If you do, unplug the network cable from the printer and ping it again to make sure that this time you do NOT get any replies. This will at least eliminate the possibility of duplicate IP addresses. I'll wait until you try this before continuing.

Just a quick comment. If you only have 2 PC's on the network, you shouldn't bother sharing network printers. Just do the same install for both PC's. No need to share.

Hi there,
Try this:
Hit your menu select button. Scroll to Network menu, then hit menu select again.
Set the Ip address, gateway and subnet mask to the same as the router. Turn off DHCP and BOOTP.
Turn the printer off and disconnect it from the network. Reconnect it, turn it on, and try printing again.

Let me know if that helps.

    Try this:

Go into the network settings of the printer that works and mimic those settings in the one that doesn't work.

What program are you trying to use?

Each printer on a network has it's own IP address. When you want to print, you must select the specific printer you want to print. You can go into the control panel and find all available printers and set whichever one you want to use as your default printer. If you want to use another, you must select it at print time. We have a network of 16 computers, 10 printers and 2 photocopier/fax/printers. it can be a nightmare, until you get the right combination. Once you get your default set, you will normally print from the same printer, unless you choose another for that one print job.

  • David Shaub Feb 26, 2009

Right click on the icon that you want and select set as default.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Two other suggestions you can try:

  • determine if the printer has a power save mode, disable if yes;
  • on PCs using the printer, enable "Automatically search for network folders and printers". This would be in the View tab of the Folder Options.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate the comment/postback. Is the printer using static IP ad and not DHCP supplied? If not, could you try that.

Do bear with me and post back:

    • IP add & SubNet Mask of your computer; and

    • IP add & SubNet Mask of the Magicolor 2300 DL.
Additionally, what router are you using pls.

To set static IP add on the printer, it must be physically (USB) connected to a computer.

  • Louie Role
    Louie Role Feb 25, 2009

Or you can configure/set-up the Magicolor 2300 DL's IP address through the small LCD display panel and the setup MENU.

Doesn't the printer need to have a different ip address than the computer? I'm pretty sure it does. Have you already contacted Minolta?

Get their Tech support on the line to see what they say.

Have you right clicked on the printer icon, and select use printer online?

That is the share setting; it needs to be active if you want to share your printer on the network. Right click on it, then select sharing and security....follow the prompts and it will set it up as a share. Then you can install a network printer on the other computers to print to it.

Hey,

I need you to completely delete the printer from your computer, remove all the software that came with it and drivers, uninstall it from device manager and then unplug.

Ones this is done, get the driver or the cd that came with it. Restart the computer while you look for the cd.

Install the software and plug in the printer when asked, it should install automatically.

Ones this is complete try printing a test page?

Printer is offline. how do I get it online?

Once you have added either a USB or networked printer to your PC or Mac computer, you can begin sending documents to print. However, on occasion, a print command will create an error on the printer and take it offline, which will prevent all future jobs from printing. To resolve this issue, you will need to change your printer settings from offline to online.
PC Instructions - Open the Start menu and click on the "Printers and Faxes" icon. This will open a window with a list of the printers currently set up on your computer. - Double-click on the icon of the printer you want to change to online. A pop-up window detailing all current print jobs will open. - Go to Printer in the menu bar of the pop-up window and uncheck "Use Printer Offline." This action will change the printer from offline to online. Mac Instructions - Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock. - Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category. - Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button. - Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online.
