Gateway GT5028 will start but no signal comes up on the monitor.

I don't know if it is the computer or the monitor, The fan is also running a lot lately.

I tried to disconnect the monitor and reconnect it and it still says no signal on the monitor. I can't get the computer to even start up at least on screen so I don't know if it is booting up or not. The computer comes on and the yellow working light is yellow for a few seconds. The monitor turns on says no signal and then goes off and the button turns yellow.

I also have this problem. I have tried putting in a new video card, new power supply, new ram, reset the CMOS, but nothing seems to work. I am starting to wonder if my CPU or Mobo overheated and burnt out. Is there any way to check my CPU or Mobo without having spare parts? Or maybe someone can think of another solution. I am stuck.

I have the same problem as well. I am assuming that the computer is not booting, but it is hard to tell when you cant see a boot screen or anything. I have tried installing a new video card, a new power supply, new ram, resetting the CMOS, but nothing seems to work. I am wondering if the CPU or Mobo was overheated and burnt out. Is there any way to check the CPU or Mobo without having spare parts to install? Or maybe someone can think of some other sugestions?

Check you VGA cable because sometime it happens due to not being properly connected between PC and monitor.

My Gateway GT5028 PC Desktop's screen flashes when i am playing starcraft 2. it has a strange smell, and i cleaned the computer recently, what could the problem be?

Depending on whether or not the game is patched it can kill your GPU. The strange smell was probably the card getting very hot. Do you know the model of GPU/Graphics card?

On a Gateway GT5028 - appears the ethernet card was damaged by power surge. We installed a new 10/100 NIC card but Gateway reports it has a problem. Any ideas? Do I need to disable the onboard NIC card...

No you do not need to disable the onboard Network Interface Card. I would suggest to first start by inserting the new NIC card in a dif. Spot.
If you do not have any other spots to insert it, i would double check to make sure you have the correct driver for the correct operating system that you are running, If you know the model # of your nic card i could gladly get you the correct driver. Let me know if this helps. Thanks

Computer "turns on" i hear four to five beeps, but the monitor gets no signal. a friend gave me the computer, only once did i see it boot up fully but it froze up so i had to restart it and it wont work....

Without knowing the exact frequency/length of the beeps my first guess would be a bad stick of ram or a bad video card. If there is more than one stick of ram in the computer try it with one of the sticks pulled, pulling each stick until it does boot. if it doesnt, try pulling the video card. If you have on board video as well as a card, you can try it with just the on board and no video card. If not, borrow a vid card from someone. Doesnt have to be anything special, it can even be one of the old 4 MB PCI cards... just for diag. If that doesn't fix it, try pulling out any other cards that may be in it. Modem, sound, etc. etc.

and finally, here is a link to all the bios error codes for Gateway computers to help with further trouble shooting.

Computer won't turn on

Try to change your power supply if you have a spare just to check if your motherboard is still ok.

No signal will come from the monitor

check the bios, which is at the beginning when you first turn on the pc and you press the delete or F1 key at a certain time to enter cmos, or bios. once in the 'bios ensure that the primary video card option is indeed your actual card ie. that if you have a onboard card you have onboard selected or agp for agp and pciexpress for pci express. If this still does not help then, perhaps remove the battery from the mother board and reset bios...***make a note of all the settings in bios first because if you did not personally build the pc then changing settings could have adverse reactions....

most times if a pc was working and lightning did not kill it, and it was not mistreated like with water or beaten I can resurect any system but I start at the beginning, without anything on the system then add things starting with HD then cdrom, then OS and vid card...then more RAM....
