Hi there!

thanks for using fixya.com!

I advise if you do not have any proper tools, and perhaps you are not that familiar with it, it is better to call a specialist to check it over, this time let the specialist take over the case. Perhaps the power supply have gone dead.

Regards!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates that the side/top cover must be removed and the inside checked with the unit unplugged from the mains. The fuse would be readily visible. A couple of ideas to consider:

  • The fuse is normally glass type.
  • If the break is clean, then it would be relatively safe to replace with identical specs.
  • If there are however black sooth/markings inside the glass tube, then another component has failed that cause the fuse to blow.
  • If the fuse checks out, then check the continuity of the primary side of the small transformer located at the mainboard. The mainboard is directly behind the keypad.
  • If everything checks out, then a probably faulty magnetron. For safety reasons, it maybe to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional if your diagnosis/repairs has reached this point.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer

It does sound like the fuse may be blown,It can be replaced by unscrewing the 3 sided cover,(2 sides and top are 1 unit)Once all the screws are removed,Just push forward a little to take it off and the fuse will be located in the top corner.

Suddenly microwave stopped working

(would really like more info- digital number dead as well?)

(assuming completely dead) Could be a couple of things:
- blown fuses (inside, relatively easy to replace, std size avail at Raioshack) <-- most likely
- cut/loose power cord connection inside.
- (unlikely but worse case scenario) Door was closed crooked- one tong hit one door switch before the other- causing a short circuit internally that "self destructs" the microwave to prevent it ever operating with an open (or even crookedly ajar) door, irradiating any users. Typically it just blows the fuses, but if fuses blow immediately upon replacing and turning power on, then possibly one of the switches fused or melted internally, and needs to be replaced.

Did you recently have trouble with the cooktop lights?

Sometimes when the cooktop lights blow or are inserted or removed while the oven is still plugged in, the filaments can short, causing a surge that damages the controller.

They can be repaired. More details here.

Sounds like a blown fuse. Carefully remove the cover, and the fuse in directly behind the power cord on the top. Radioshack sells 15A ceramic replacements.

No power

Either the fuse inside is blown, or the power supply is shot. You can remove the cover of the oven, and look inside at fuse. You can test power supply / inverter with a voltmeter to see if there is power to the main circuit board.

Our Panasonic Genius 1200w microwave stopped working all of a sudden. It's completely dead - even the front panel. Is it worth fixing?

It could be just the fuse and fixed for a couple bucks. Only way to know is open it up and check it. Eric

NO POWER

Most likely have blown a fuse , get behind the touchpad to ohm the fuse out , replace if blown , if continues to blow check componets for shorts , there will likely be signs of burnt parts.

Reset for GE Microwave?

There's no other reset function. If a reset (unplugging) does not correct it, it will need to be repaired.

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free. GE Customer Service is here.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

I would suspect a blown fuse or the magnetron;s thermal cutout / thermal fuse.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

you may have just blown a fuse inside the microwave or the transformer inside has now failed and will need replacing but it will need to be looked at to see what exactly happened
