Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
It never wants to load the disk in the console just keeps saying open tray even thought there is a game already in it when i cut it in
I got some good and bad news.
Lets start with the bad one. If you don't have the warranty that will cost you $99. Before going there lets go through the basic troubleshoot solution.
Go on console settings and check your time, time zone and locale.
Try any games after.
Still not working. Delete all saved game in relation to the disk in the tray (i know that sucks but yeah it may be one of the problem.
Still not working remove your hard drive ( its the grey thing at the top of your xbox. Press and release button to remove it and try a disk)
Alright still not working......here is your last resort.
The GOOD NEWS is if you still have your warranty you call microsoft and they will service your xbox360 for free. For the inconvenience you will have 30 days free xbox live.

My xbox keeps saying open tray

I have had this happen about 3 times. The first time was when i figured out how to fix it. The 2nd and 3rd were temporary.(Just needed to be turned off for a moment) You need to shut the console off for atleast 15 minutes 10 at the lowest with everthing unplugged. I mean the hard drive, memory unit, and all cables, and adapters. Then after 10-15 minutes plug everything in and DON'T PRESS the BUTTONS ON THE XBOX OR THE CONTROLLERS. Press the button to open the tray and take out the game or dvd and put in a different one. If this doesn't work do it all over again and then put in a different game or dvd not the previous ones and turn on the console the same but then a soon as you get the disc in and closed in shut it off then open the tray and wait till you are at the main menu go into any program so you can't see it is reading and close the tray. If that doesn't work contact the xbox support line. Really hope this works for you.

SOURCE: XBOX 360 "Open Tray " message
Your CD/DVD drive has failed mechanically. Usually this is a physical problem where the disc is simply no longer in alignment with the laser. It does not necessarily mean something will make noise, and can be just one small part slightly bent or broken so the disk now moves freely top to bottom.
If you can do a warranty repair, you're set. But if you are no longer under warranty, you only have two options. you can try and replace the drive, which although odd shaped; I think is just a standard IDE drive, or you can shift the XBOX 90 degrees to Re-orient the box. In some cases this may let gravity hold in place what the internal mechanisms no longer are.
