Install SQ-TC520N CD-ROM Changer with an Intel...

By Brad - usenet poster

Hello,
I have a Gateway 2000 GP6-400MHz computer with a "Genuine Intel Pentium(r) II Processor Intel MMX(TM) Technology 128MB RAM" and Windows 98.

I have a problem installing a Panasonic Big 5 CD-ROM Changer with the Intel Chip Set above mentionned. I have been indicated I needed to run the patch "Setupex.exe" from Intel. Unfortunately, when I do try to run it, here is the message I get: "The 82371xB INF Update Installer requires systems with Microsoft Windows 95 and an Intel 82371xB component. You do not need to
run this setup program." The name of the installer was "Intel(R) 82371xB INF
Update Installer. Copyright, (c) 1998 Intel Corporation Version 3.2.2 ". Then it doesn't take the 2 next patches from Microsoft (Krnlupd.exe and CdChnger.exe). When I plug the CD-ROM (as the master secondary) and try to reopen the computer, the SmartCD Manager gives me an error message that it cannot find the device.

I madly need help with it.

Many thaks.
Dominique

I have the exact same problem with win98. The bios recognizes the
drive, however, once into win98 the drive is not recognized and the CD
Smart Manager gives me the same message. When I try to run the winzard
for new hardware, it does not recognize the drive. I have noted others
using win98 on brand new installs of win98 successfully or using dos
drivers. ANY CLUES?

configuration:
ASUS P2B with BX chipset and AWARD bios Rel. 1009
Win98 w/updates
Pentium II-400 w/128megs
Adaptec 2940UW
IBM 6.2gig EIDE
IBM 9.1gig Ultra SCSI
Onstream Tape BU (SCSI)
Panasonic SQ-TC520 EIDE Changer

I have tried to install the Changer directly without any patches. I got the message that the SmartCD Manager could not find the device. I have Windows 98 (4.10.98).

Thank you again to help.

If you're running Windows98 or a late release (OSR2 or 2.5) of Win95, you
may not need to update anything.

Check with Panasonic about the requirements for Win98 - you will
probably find the drive is supported with no patches necessary.
