Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I can't find PCI or USB drivers for a Dell Optiplex GX270

I'm setting this Dell Optiplex GX270 up for a friend. I did a fresh install of Win XP and went to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_CEL_GX270&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

To download all the missing drivers. Well everything is working but my friend can only get dial up internet ( yuck ) so I put a modem in. The system didn't reconize it. I look in the devise manager and I have no drivers for PCI, or USB.
I have searched the Dell drivers page above and tried almost every driver on that page with no luck.
I also downloaded the modem driver and it didn't do anything either...any help?
Thanks

    I have the PC at my house and it is hooked up to cable right now. I put the modem in and installed the modem driver but for some reason in the devise manager it still shows a ( ! ) for the PCI slot. The modem shows up but will not dial up and it gives me a hardware error.

    can you confirm if you have service pack 2 installed?

    your USB drivers will update once service pack 2 is installed.

    You can see what service pack you have by looking on the system in the control panel or typing dxdiag in the run box from the startup.

    Whats the model number of the modem you have? Let me know and ill locate the driver for you but youll have to download from another pc or by your friends dial-up, that will sort your PCI problem out.

    If you put a PCI modem in the computer you shoudl have gotten the driver along with it. If not go to the link of the company that made that modem,for the driver.

    Hold on... ok, after installing XP, you downloaded all the drivers from Dells website. After that, the modem must have been working if he was able to get dial up. But then you say that you installed a NEW modem? Was it a modem, a NIC card, or a wireless card? I think that you should be looking for a network adaptor driver instead of a modem driver. It sounds like the modem is already working if he's getting dial up. Please clarify.

Do you know the motherboard mfg?
if it something other than the Dell then you can get the drivers.
USB drivers are mostly generic and are available at Microsoft. there is an application called "Driver Detective" and they are good. They check the computer and get everything you need.

How can i get a free download of windows 8.

there is no such thing as a free download of a microsoft product
you may get a disc for win 8 but to make it work you will have to buy the licence to register it and that is as costly as buying the disc to start with
the only free operating systems are LINUX--ubantu and it is far better than microsoft when you get the hang of uing it

How to enable bluetooth

Your computer has to have a bluetooth radio. You can check
Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager
Do you see a Bluetooth Radio listed?

If not, you don't have BlueTooth on your computer so you will have to add a BlueTooth device by plugging one into a USB port.

If you have a BlueTooth radio, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device and Printers > Add a Bluetooth Device

This option is used to connect a blue tooth device (e.g. bluetooth headphons) to your laptop through your bluetooth radio.

See this Windows web page for more information.
Set up Bluetooth enabled device

I will respond to any additional questions you have.

Hide file folder WITH A password

For the most part you need 3rd party software, or a USB drive with security built in. Just remember you are at the mercy of those companies if you lose the password. Plus some software will only works locally. For instance if someone removes the drive and connects it to another computer the files are wide open.
Win 7 Ult and Ent (high end editions have Bitlocker built in.
A simple way is to create a folder within his login account docs and choose hidden as the properties. The only way to see it would be to change folder properties and make hidden files visible. This is just cloaking, because anybody with admin rights can see them.

How to install bluetooth on my pc

Hello,
This depends on what kind of bluetooth you plan on using. Certain things like a Blu-Ray DVD Drive needs to be installed and hooked up internally in your PC, while something like Headphones or a Keyboard simply just needs a USB-based transmitter or a Bluetooth card that plugs into your computer.

Hope that helps,

Mouse and keyboard have no power

If your mouse and keyboard work properly with another computer or laptop the problem could be :
A) if devices are USB :
- defective USB port : chose another USB port;
- USB port inactivated in BIOS : check and activate;
- motherboard defective : replace motherboard.
B) if devices are PS/2 :
- damaged PS/2 ports : buy a PS/2 to USB adapter for your mouse/keyboard or buy USB mouse and keyboard;
- motherboard defective : replace it.
