Using recovery disk on toshiba satellite p25 when dvd doen't work

My laptop got damaged while serving in Iraq with the USMC. Someone loaded xp home edition instead of media edition and the DVD doesn't seem to work. I want to load the recovery disk and go back to XP media edition. I have an external Dell 8x DVD. Is it possible to get this to work. Nothing happens when I plug it into the back of the laptop. Any help w/b appreciated greatly.

Dell recovery will not work in a Toshiba Laptop. Just make sure the boot order is set to CD/DVD driver first that will automatically start the CD/DVD driver when disc is loaded.

In need of restoring to factory settings, (Toshiba Satellite M45). Held down zero, powered on, no beeps occur. The recovery utility never appears. Not listed in All Programs for Hard Disk Utility nor in...

It appears the recovery partition has been removed from your hard disk. You need to obtain a Recovery CD from Toshiba.
OR
If you have a Windows XP Home installation CD then you can use it to reinstall Windows on your Toshiba and the product installation code will be on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.

You can download thedevice drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from theirdownload page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get thecorrect drivers. The monitor on my Toshiba P25-S5093 does not have any display of any kind; all black. I have display using external monitor.

Hi,
Does the display show anything before you enter windows? If yes, then press the key to transfer video back to your original screen once you enter windows. It should be the function key "Fn" + F5 - F8. looks for the icon which shows a monitor or says "CRT/LCD".
If it doesn't show anything before you enter windows I'm afraid your screen needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Toshiba media recovery satellite l300 series windows vista home premium disk doesn't work it gets stuck on a black screen with a mouse cursor

Try cleaning the disk in soap and water / dry with a microfiber cloth or cotton towel . Then try your disk. If you don't get the proper response then I suspect a corrupt data disk or a malfunctioning DVD.

If you can boot to a windows CD, you can try a "repair installation" of Windows, this will let you reinstall windows on top of itself, without harming your data:

HOW TO FACTORY RESET TOSHIBA SATELLITE NOTEBOOK

That model Toshiba does not come with a recovery CD, does not have a restore partition, and does not allow you to creat a recovery disc when working normally, so unfortunatly you have 2 choices.

1. Call Toshiba and try to get them to mail you a recovery disk, if they have any they will likely charge you for the disk + shipping.

2. Reinstall windows manually using a clean install, you can use any OEM windows disk as long as it is the same version as your windows product key on the bottom of the laptop (i.e XP Home/XP PRO/ XP MCE/ or VISTA - all vista disks are basically the same and have all 3 versions on them)

Make sure you have backups of the drivers for your network adapter and other hardware before doing a clean install.

Bluescreen

You can do the sytem recovery by loading the first disk then turn your NB off. Please hold down F12 after power on then select CD/DVD drive then Windows will be loading files. Select the first options for each prompt. You will be asked for the second disk later. Plug in ac adapter since it will take around an hour. Hope this helps.
