Question about Dell Inspiron 600M Notebook
I have been trying to use the microphone installed in the Dell Inspiron 600M but it's not working. It is the little hole above the volume control. I have all the volume up and done all I can to make loud sounds for it to pick up but it won't work. Any solutions?
If your Inspiron 600m had a mic that you used in the past and it is no longer working, please try to press the mute/volume down/up buttons near where the whole of the mic is located.
If, after trying the above, 1 or all 3 buttons do not work, the problem is with the board that is right under the power button (small 2-3 inch length circuit board). It is not making full contact on its connector below. If you put pressure on it (just above the power button) it will all respond. I had the same problem on another 600m laptop.

I have 2 600m computers. One has an internal mic and one does not, though they both have the little hole. On the one without the internal mic, I have to reboot in order to use the mic. What I am saying is the mic only works after a fresh reboot, and then it will generally keep working for a good long while. On the other, I have to reinstall the audio driver periodically to keep the mic working. I keep a shortcut to the audio driver installation program on my desktop and any time I need the microphone and it's not working, I quickly do a driver reinstall. Then the microphone will work for several days usually. I have talked to Dell many times about this problem and they are stumped. I even had 2 new mother boards installed under warranty and a complete Windows reinstall. No change.
