Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

1 Answer

Starting vista problems

I have a toshiba A135 Satellite with 1GB RAM
It boots up to the error message "explorer has stopped working"
When I restart with Repair option using the Vista DVD, it says it can't repair the problem automatically
I click on Command Prompt. It goes to the cmd screen. Then I run CHKDSK c: /R
At stage 4 of 5 (when showing 13% complete and 13884 of 167856 files processed) it hangs and does not go forward.
What can I do now?

I have done as you suggested. Windows comes up but with new problems.

1)click on the start button and nothing happens.

    2) the icons on my taskbar are not clear anymore

    3) I cannot right-click and get a window from the taskbar anymore

does your vista disc say service pack 1 on it? if not you cannot do a repair because you most likely have service pack one installed due to windows update.

did you try to boot up in safe mode? hitting f8 every 2 seconds after booting up

Bad sector in your HDD. Break all partition, install vista again, make partitions with disk management utility or partitionmagic. Compare your present disk amount with actual capacity.

You have no problem with your servicepack or update. Keep informing.

Windows is corrupted beyond repair, you need to reinstall it. For the recovery discs, call Toshiba at 800-457-7777. They will want to know the computer's serial number and a credit card number.

Toshiba satellite a135-s2306 has power but does not work .

OK, check that your harddrive and ram is inserted correctly. go here for more information. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a135/remove-mainboard-1.htm

If you are trying to insert 3GB of Ram in there it will not boot up but it will have power. Check that.

Try disconnecting power adapter and removing battery for two minutes. If the laptop still does not boot then there is an hardware problem. You can try taking out and putting back ram modules, but my suggestion is to take the laptop at a repair shop, if you cannot fix it by removing battery.

Toshiba satellite pro l40 boot up problem

If you run a repair with the recovery disc you won't lose any info. The only time you'll lose the info is if you run a complete reload. Run the system disc until it gets to the point of finding installed operating systems, at this point instead of deleting the partition, press R and it will reinstall the operating system files only leaving other installed files and programs intact. Keep in mind that many times when this happens, it's a hard drive failure. If it is a hard drive failure, then you will have to replace the hard drive and you will lose the info, sorry.

You will need to remove the 2-512MB ram that are installed on your computer and buy 2-1GB sticks. There is no other way around this. Download CPU-Z program to find exact memory module needed before you buy the wrong one. Good luck.
