Cannot watch video on Acer 5100

I find that I cannot play videos on my Acer 5100. It is as if the system cannot cope, but I have a 2G processor and 1G RAM. Problem is wether on-line or on local hard drive. Any suggestions very welcome.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. I am using Vista Home Premium. Essentially the problem is that I videos only play frame by frame and the audio is unintelligible. I have tried with Windows Media and QuickTime. Same effect with YouTube and NetFlix videos. Thanks.

Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio version 6.0.1.5334

Display: ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 version 8.531.0.0

I have tried to update the display driver, but it failed. I have installed all of the various codecs. Again, many thanks.

Hi there
There are a few applications that you need to have installed on the PC for you to watch videos on line or from hdd.

first you will need adobe flash 10, download it and install it from here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

also download and install java from here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Now thats the on-line software done, now you need "codecs", download and install these to allow you to watch the latest DIVX, XVID video files etc

http://www.xpcodecpack.com/download

and codec 8.3 here:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Codec.shtml

Install all of the above and restart your pc, then try to watch your media on the net and in a media player, the problem should now be resolved.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

    Hi again.
Go to Acer support website and download the chipset driver, the graphics driver is bundled together with that, once downloaded reinstall the drivers and try again.

How can i allocate more memory to video card of acer aspire 5100

You can only do that with onboard video cards. If you have an onboard you can choose how much ram to assign to it in your bios settings. However it is limited and if you already have 128 assigned to it, that's probably about all it's gonna give ya. But hey it never hurts to check Assigning your physical memory to your graphics card will result a shortage of your total system memory and your whole system will slow down a bit.
Video cards meant for better processing the graphical content of your system and free up your system's physical memory.[via]
So, if you buy a new and better video card with more memory you will have a fast system with better performance.

When I watch a movie/video clip from a DVD or online my laptop performs -very- poorly. It will "skip" ahead to various parts or take forever to play and will not play continuously. How can I fix this?

Hello.

I would suggest that you upgrade or reinstall the video software that you are using, such as Windows Media Player.

But, you didn't indicate if the Only time your laptop performs poorly occurs when watching a movie or video clip. If your laptop is slow in other ways as well, let us know.

Hope this helps.

System Requirements

With your Extensa you should be fine with the video and sound cards, as long as yours meets the 2ghz + 1g RAM, you shouldn't have any problems with the game. If you are, try updating to the latest sound and video drivers. Also, if you're sitting on 1g of RAM now, you might consider bumping it up to 2g. This will help it run smoother and avoid crashing during a gaming session.

Acer Aspire Notebook won't play videos

try these in any order. Try different browser(firefox, safari,ie), update firmware on router, make sure you have the latest codecs downloaded. I think it is probably the router a friend had the same thing happening and after doing everything including reinstalling windows it was just the router needed updated.
