Question about Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin 16231 Mechanical Sewing Machine
When I push the foot petal it moves very slowly and I get a burning smell. I manually turn the dial and it is very hard to turn. I would also love to find a manual; I don't have one. Thanks!
There's a website called managemyhome.com which is sponsored by Sears. It's free to join. Go to the Home Manager column and choose Owner's Manuals from the drop down menu.
You can type in the brand name (Kenmore) and model number of your machine. Not all of them are in there but, I did find the one for the 1950280 question. It's a pdf file.
For the 38516764 question, please double check your model number. I received either no response or a Kenmore Elite dishwasher manual in response to my query.

The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

I have never seen it be the circuit board, always is the foot control switch. I dont understand the stitch getting tight though. And yes, it could be the circuit board.

You have to unplug the power cord to the the foot pedal. The manual doesn't include this. And good stinkin luck with Sears or Kenmore customer service! Just pull the cord out of the machine and the start/stop button will work. Try it on a slower setting at first though. Also, if you need additional presser feet, Singer, Brother, Janome, and possibly other brands will usually work as long as they are the snap on type. I really do like my machine, good luck with yours!

Sounds like the foot petal needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Make sure everything is unplugged. Use WD-40 on everything except any electrical parts, it has chemical agents in it that break down the plastic after a long period of time.
