Go to bios and check if your cdrom is the first available boot device.
if not then make it! .
if it is and you can't boot from cd then your cd/dvd rom drive might be crashed. also check if your cd rom disk have dust scratches on it.

Need to do a factory reset on a presario cq58n and it wont let me

Step 1:
There are multiple instances when you would want to wipe your PC's memory clean and reset it to the factory defaults. Called "formatting," it is often the last-ditch effort to restore a PC to functionality. You will also have to format your PC if it gets crippled by viruses. Although these instructions are for the Compaq Presario, the steps are essentially the same for all Windows-based PCs. Be sure that you want to delete everything--this process is irreversible.

Back up any data that you want to keep by saving it to removable media, such as external hard drives, flash drives, DVD-R, etc. Unplug all peripheral devices, except for the keyboard and mouse. Turn on the computer. As the computer is starting, repeatedly press F1 to initiate the recovery process. When the BIOS setup screen appears, press the right arrow key to select "Boot". Press the down arrow key to select "Boot Device Priority" and press "Enter". Press the down arrow key to select "CD-ROM" and press "+" to move it to the top of the list. Open the CD-ROM tray, and insert the system recovery disk. Exit the BIOS setup by pressing "F10". Be sure to select "Save Changes and Exit". System recovery should initiate. If it does not, and the PC loads Windows, then you have either failed to set the CD-ROM at the top of the boot priority list or you exited the BIOS setup without saving. Press "R" to begin the recovery process. When prompted, select "Full System Recovery". Restart the computer when the process has completed.

Most of the boot up of problem because of hardware problem, registry missing or crashed, file deleted or changed.
You can boot up your Windows with Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE.It allows users to burn ISO file to CD/DVD/USB flash drive directly.
Step 1: Download Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE in any available computer (not from PC that can't boot up). Then launch it.
Step 2: Insert CD/DVD/USB flash drive to the computer, choose ISO image file. Here we take USB flash drive for example. Then burn ISO file into flash drive.
Step 3: Insert the burned flash drive to the unbootable PC. Run computer and press "F2", "F10" or "Delete" to enter BIOS setup.
Step 4: Use the arrow keys to select Boot tab, select Boot Device Priority and press Enter. Please choose 1st Boot Device to USB, and then press F10 to save setting. Now,you can boot up your PC.
If you have a backup for your Windows then perform a system restore to fix it.If not, reinstall it.If you have no backups for all your data, you can use Tenorshare to retrieve data under any boot up problem. You can get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverywinpe.htm
Here is tutorial to guide you how to do --How to Recover Data from Computer Won't Boot Up?-Windows Data Recovery.

Sony desktop vaio computer keeps saying missing operating system

Your operating system is currupted. You will need to repair it or restore it, if your sony desktop came with a recovery/repair cd. If it did, insert the disc, turn on the computer, set boot priority either in your bios (boot options) or the startup screen to dvd/cd rom, and follow instruction. If it didn't come with a recovery/restore disc, you are in trouble, and will need a full windows installation via a windows operating disc.

Ntldr is compressed

An NTLDR is compressed error is pretty easy to fix(much better then NTLDR is missing errors!).

First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the comman prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Your computer should now reboot, and everything "should" work!
