Question about Samsung Syncmaster 730B 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Do you have a second monitor you can switch out? Have you checked the monitor itself to make sure it's not set for digital vs. analog (or vice-versa)? Are all cables and plugs tight and secure? Has the brightness level been turned down? These are all the troubleshooting steps I go through before anything else. There are just a few things that generally go wrong with a monitor. Since the power light is on, that rules out one of them. In this case, I'd narrow it down to the power inverter or the backlight for the screen has gone bad. The best way to check for the backlight is turn off all the lights in the room (preferably at night) and see if you can detect even the faintest of an image on the screen. If so, you know the backlight is out.
The bad news is no matter how you look at it, it's probably time for a new screen if none of the troubleshooting did anything. The good news is- monitors are cheap and geting cheaper. Shoot- I just saw CompUSA.com had a 25" monitor for $199 this week. Almost got one but I'm afraid my wife would divorce me if I brought in yet another. Guess I'll have to wait till she needs to change the prescription on her glasses first.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
