Question about Office Depot Ativa DQ60M Shredder

1 Answer

Shredder runs continuously in AUTO position. It appears to use a photoelectric sensor for AUTO activation. I cleaned the window once with a swab and windex. It worked for a few days but is doing it again now. Further cleaning does not help.

There are three reasons why:
1. paper particles or oil are still causing the optics to think you are inserting paper. Remove cover and clean thoroughly!
2. Optics are misaligned.
3. Optics are defective.

What model or industry part number of ir sensor do i search for to fix my Omnitech paper shredder? It's a model:OT-EXC10A

What you see with one sensor dark and one sensor clear is correct. Try cleaning the sensors with a cotton swab and a touch of rubbing alcohol. Chances are the sensor is dirty or may have a scratch on it. If cleaning doesn't help then replacing the sensors is your next step.

Can not get paper to shred

Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.

Staples SPL -TXC15A Shredder on all the time

This is what worked for me.
1) unplug the shredder
2) put the selector in "auto" position. This pulls back the guard which blocks the paper and hids the sensor.
3) a little right of the center of the paper slot is the sensor. You can feel this by inserting a cotton swab in ths slot.
4) put some alcohol on the cotton swab and clean the sensor!!!!

Also the "bin full" sensors are under the shretter head. You can easily see those when you remove the head from the bin by flipping it over. I would advise cleaning those while you are at it. Mine were covered with dirt and dust.

Hope this helps!!

The shredder bin is saying its full and its not

There are photoelectric sensors located inside the shredder and mounted on the bottom of the shredder assembly. Take the bin out and look up to find them. They are either blocked, dirty, or defective. Ensure that the plastic piece hanging loosely from the bottom of the assembly is not jammed in the up position and therefore blocking the sensors. If not blocked, most probably, just cleaning the sensors will resolve your problem. If that doesn't work, you have to resolve a component failure in the circuitry, which, depending on your particular skills is eiither easy or expensive. Good Luck

Auto mode the blades continue to turn

Unplug it! Clean the optics in the center where paper is inserted. You can do this with a cotton swab. Check to make sure no paper has lodged itself in the infeed center. If no optics, then check to see if a metal arm that activates the machine isn't stuck in the on position. This will be in the center of where paper is inserted. This repair might require the cover to be removed. Remember, unplug the shredder.
