Question about Compaq Presario C700T Notebook
I have a Compaq Presario C700 and the hard drive went bad. I got another hard drive. I was unable to reinstall Vista on it using the Compaq. It would say the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I borrowed a buddies HP and put the hard drive in that an was able to reformat it with Vista and it works. I swap it back to the Compaq and it still gives me the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I can go into the BIOS and check the hard drive and it says its all good. Does anyone know what can solve this problem?
BIOS checksum errors occurs when either the BIOS chjp is faulty or most likely the BIOS battery is nearly flat and the stored info changes and doesn't match the checksum info.
Replace the battery with a new one, leave the battery out for 1/2 hour before inserting the new battery. The BIOS will be reset to the default settings, you need to configure it again eg, datr and time etc.
