My g drive is beeping - I had it on my mac and brought it over to another one to share files and it started beeping and will not load

Sounds like your file system is GPT--Protected drive. You can either backup the information on the drive and reformat it as another partiton type or open it on windows using this program

It worked for me.

Blue 500 GB not recognized by Sony Vaio laptop

Hello, Assuming the drive works and the laptop's usb port is good then the problem could reside in a couple of areas.. 1. The file system of the Blue hard drive may not be recognized by windows on your Vaio, this is most likely due to the fact its was formatted with a Mac (and therefore probably using HFS). If this is the case and you need to read the contents of the disk then you can install mediafour's macdrive (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive) this will allow your vaio to read the mac disk. It is free for 5-days so if you just need to access some files you can do this at no cost. 2. The drive may not have been partitioned and formatted yet, in which case for windows XP follow this microsoft guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348 and for windows 7 follow this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Create-and-format-a-hard-disk-partition
Hope this helps

On start up my 1.5tb external hard drive keeps saying you need to format this drive before you can use it, although it has quite a lot of files for my work on it and i use it quite regularly

Hi, Do you use a MAC at your work? If so, most likely the USB HDD will be in HFS+ and windows is unable to read that file format without the help of third-party software like MacDrive ( LINK: http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive )
Hope i was of any help. If so, please rate me. Thank you

I have a lacie had drive that i've been using on my mac. My mac died and I bought a PC instead. How can I retrieve the data I stored on my Lacie?

The easiest way that I know is to purchase a program called MacDrive from Mediafour.com

This will let your PC (Windows XP, Vista or Windows7) read the mac formatted HD directly

They do have a trial version, so you can make sure it'll work for your HD before you pay for it.

I formatted my drive to a mac now my pc wont recognize it how do i fix this

The fastest way is to use MacDrive by MediaFour. You can get a trial from their website Sorry... for some reason this stupid Fixya interface is not allowing me to create a link on this reply so please copy paste this one in your URL field:http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/You could also mount the drive on a mac if you have one, then can share your mac with a PC and you will be able perform R/W operations between your Mac and your PC.

I split my hard drive so my mac can get it but know my pc wont get it

You could invest in a program called MACDRIVE that allows PC's to see mac formatted drives.

Otherwise I would format it as a PC drive only using the FAT 32 sysytem that AFAIK macs can also still see.

Sorry but the chat dropped out for some reason

If it does not work with macdrive on the Xp computer you eed to go with one of the last two options I gave you.

File corruption is a common thing on external drives so if macdrive doeant work you have a good reason to call him.

Can an older Lacie drive (2005?) work with an HP tablet?

The native file system for Macs is HFS. If the drive was originally used with a Mac, the current file system on the drive is HFS. Windows uses NTFS and is not compatible with HFS; which is why Windows doesn't recognize the drive as valid.

You can download a data retrieval tool called MacDrive that will give Windows the ability to speak Mac. There is a free trial available and it should be able to help you grab the files off of the drive.

I need to be able to use this hard drive on my pc

DataViz makes a product called MacDrive7 that can be installed on a Windows PC that will enable it to use pretty much any kind of device that has been formatted for a Mac. The other option would be to format the drive for a PC since a Mac can utilize PC formatted disks, but you will lose options like forks, etc that are Mac-specific.
