My speakers are not working. The green light is showing and the green plug is in the green socket

Hi, the speakers are fine it's the motherboard socket for the speakers that's got the problem. You could buy a sound card for one of your pc board slots that would give you your sound back.

No sound

Possible causes.
1. No sound ->means no Audio/Sound Drivers or incorrect drivers installed for your Audio devices ie.(no sound icon on your taskbar?)
2. No sound -> Sound card devices or speakers could be defective.

No mention of Operating Systems ie Windows versions , Linux, Dos...etc... or information of Mainboard brand, name, model -> means difficulties in helping to solve your problems!!!!!

Hope it helps.

you can try doing a fresh install of windows to see if there is any driver conflicts.

Before you do that though i would download and burn a ubuntu cd to try some tests with linux.

when you put in the linux cd it will give you the option to "try linux without any changes to my computer". select that option.

Linux distributions often come with generic drivers that work with most hardware types.

see if you have the same issue with ubuntu. If you do then you may have deeper issues. If you do not then a simple reinstall of windows should suffice.

hope this helps.

Sound

First make sure it is not muted. You can also check and maybe update the sound card drivers.

It's also possible that it's a hardware problem, e.g. broken speaker wires.

Sound device

The reason for the message will be the fact that windows doesnt recognise that there is a sound device available because the driver for your sound card or onboard sound is not built into XP and therefore you will have to find out what make of audio you have and install the relevant driver.
