Black screen after interrupting the downloading of upgrades!

I was downloading the upgrades to several programs and I went on to check my e-mails.... after a while the notice came up to discontinue applications and don't interrupt downloads... now I have a black screen and don't know how to repair the situation.

Can you boot it from an external operating system.. If you do not have a back up you could try booting from the Installation disks to see if you hardware is still intact. If so you need to backup and reinstall

Model number A1286. My mac cannot turn on when I try to turn it on it just sounds like its warming up but the screen is all black, what do I do?

This is a very unusual symptom of hardware failure. One or more of the following might be the cause.

The ribbon cable to the display has worked loose or its connection has otherwise become interrupted. This seems the most likely; most other problems would at least show a "gray" screen during startup.

The GPU (graphics card) has come loose or (very unlikely) has died.

If you (or someone you trust) are not comfortable opening it up and checking for loose connections, you can try taking it in to an Apple store for assessment, but this model is considered "vintage" and no longer supported.

Just for reference, I'll include a link to several videos which explain the breakdown process in detail. (http://www.powerbookmedic.com/manual.php?id=35) MacBook Pro 15 A1286 Repair Guide

How can I retrieve my "invite link" that went into spam mail?

I am not sure what you are referring to exactly. I have never noticed an "Invite" link in Mail. You may be using another program or app.

In mail. if you have an Invite link, it should be in somewhere in your Toolbar.

When in Mail, go to View, then Customize Toolbar. That will bring up a screen with available action icons. You can then click and drag them onto your Toolbar to customize it.

I hope this helps.

My Mac mail program just stopped working and only show me the color "wheel of death." I can't open mail or read mail...zilch! Gregg

First, ensure you have a fresh and comprehensive backup (preferably Time Machine) of your system and user files before proceeding.Shut down Mail. From your Home folder, navigate to Library/Mail. Move the file Envelope Index to the Desktop. Now start Mail. You should see a message about "upgrading" your mailboxes for a new version. If you have a lot of mail, it will take some time. When it is done, your mailboxes should be available again. If instead of the message Mail immediately starts spinning the wheel again, the problem is probably a damaged preference file. In this case, stop Mail, replace the Envelope Index file back where it was, visit /Library/Preferences, and move the files beginning with "com.apple.mail…" to the Desktop. Again, start Mail and see if this solves the problem. You will probably have to re-establish some of your preference defaults, and perhaps even your email account information.

My email just keeps loading ,it wont let me open any pages

Hello
It could be there is one message still on the server that is hanging the download. Two questions:
1) What email program are you using? 2) Do you know how to check your e-mail using your Internet Service Provider's webmail access?
If you don't have an answer to 2), usually you take the part of your e-mail address after the @ and go to a web page with an address something like: webmail.cox.net (that would be the address if your email is @cox.net, for example). Once there, you will be asked to enter your user name (the part before the @) or your full e-mail address, and your e-mail password.
That way, you can quit your e-mail program so the messages stop loading, and then instead look at all your messages online.
If you see one that looks like spam, or that has a huge file attachment, or that just looks odd, consider deleting it (you can always drag it out of the trash later).
If there is a bad message, it will usually be the next message online after the last message your email program was able to download.
So, give that a shot, and see if it clears up the e-mail loading issue. If not, or if this doesn't make sense, send a comment and I'll answer any questions you have then.
All best, cordwainer

Black Screen

Thinking about this one I really think the video had nothing to do with the black screen. I would try to things one is reset the power management. Not know exactly what Powerbook you have I will give the most common way. Remove the Battery and the power cord from the powerbook, wait a few minutes then hold the power button for about 40 seconds. Then put the battery and power cord back in and restart it. The second thing to do is boot from the install disk that came with it and run the disk utility. I have also seen bad RAM do this but you would get at least a chime on startup.
