I would suggest replaceing the overload/relay w/capacitor .
Pt # 67005560 . This piece , easily plugs onto the side of the compressor . If you replace it now , since it is already burnt , it would save you the trouble of replacing it later , when the compressor will not restart . It will happen again , due to the burning .
Yes the motor should be running and need to be replace to keep the food from spoiling, this will correct the problem however the buning smell is unknown
