How do I restart the camera? The message says lens error and to restart the camera.

Lens error is a pretty serious problem. If power off-on doesn't clear it, it is a trip to the repair shop.

My lens 28-75.Has worked fine for a year.

I have a lens like yours but mine ( I don't think) will fit a Pentax. I had the same problem. I thought it was the camera. So I took them both to the camera shop. When I was told that the lens was the problem I bought a new lens. I still have this one and if you find a fix for it I'd like to try it on mine.

Lens error,restart camera

Hi,

This error occured when lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting.when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera.
Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
  • Do not touch Lens while shooting.
  • Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.
If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again then your device need to be repaired.

Rating the solution is highly appriciated...Good Luck.

Lens error, restart camera. How can I restart the camera IXUS 60?

Hi,

Since the camera is locked after lens error, you will restart camera removing batteries.

If this does not help, then you are in one of the following conditions:

Lens error and lens does not retract.
Try helping lens gently back in while you turn off the camera holding the button at same time.

Lens error and lens do not extend.
Restart the camera , and try gently tapping the camera back with the palm of your hand whilst restarting camera at same time.

If that does not help, then one part on the camera lens assembly is broken or out of place, or dirt inside lens mechanism caused the fault.

The lens must be disassembled by a technician to fix the problem.

If the problem is not fixed swapping batteries and resetting, then the camera must be taken apart and tested by a technician.

ERROR 99

I have faced similar problems previously with my Canon 20d and Sigma 170-500. Its even more annoying to see it happen in field while it would be okay back home. I was told that it is electronic compatibility problem instead of complaining the best was to change the lens and hence bought a 100-400 and happy ending.

I get an error 99 message (turn power switch to off then on again or re-install battery)

I have a similar problem.  The contacts seem temperamental for the XSI on this lens.  But strangely, I've found as long as you aren't focusing in on a bright image, it works just fine.  The only thing I can figure is with a 300mm magnification is that it doesn't want to burn out the chip so it's a built-in protection of some sorts.  Try cleaning both the contacts on the lens and the camera body gently. Does the problem happen as soon as you turn on the camera, or mid shot?
