First make sure that the computer is not overheating. If that’s not it take a look at how much memory you have on your computer Vista takes up a lot of space so that could also be what is going on you might need to go back down to XP or get more memory.

My laptop keeps crashing when idle.

It's a problem caused by Microsoft when your windows product key seems to be banned (by Microsoft). It's generated by WGA tool that check OS if it's original or pirated. If they found pirated they give you 30 days limitation to use your current OS. If you are using a original but microsoft says pirated, you can found some tool to remove this limitation. I am not giving you the site address. Make a google search by this words "WGA removal for vista" without quote. Hope you will find. This kind of software are freeware. if you found your desired software, install it than restart. Now you are done.
keep informing.

File sharing between computers

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help. Try the following:

On your laptop with Vista, click start, then network from the right side. This will take you to the Network Screen. Click on the Network and sharing screen. Click on options such as file sharing, printer sharing etc. Make sure that you can see each device your your network. If you can't you must go to each PC and use the network options on the XP machines. It's pretty simple, just follow the instructions that the wizard provides.

I hope this gets you up and running. Thanks for using Fixya.com

checklist:
1. sound driver 2. microphone settings in volume control applet 3. tap test (tap the area around the microphone and see if eg Sound Recorder picks it up) 4. external microphone
If you get to step 4 before you get anything then your problem is one of missing or damaged microphone.

Windows vista home premium hangs at welcome screen

have a Dell Inspiron 9400 running windows vista business 32 bit that was hanging on the welcome screen during boot up! I went to dell and put in the ID Tag # for my unit then downloaded the newest WLAN driver and installed it. This has fixed the problem. I did not nor could I have guessed that this was the cause. After reading about it in other forums, all pointed me to the download and it worked.
