Hi There, This is quite a common problem with the Mackie SRM450's. You will find that you need to replace the diaphram on the top. This can be done by removing the 16 screws from the back of the Mackie (quite a long pain in the **** job) with a long handled cross head screw driver.

Once you have done this you should then remove the hex bolts from the back of the drive where the black and right terminals are. When this is done, pull off the cover and swap the diaphram out. With the new diaphram in place reverse the steps above but before you screw the back on, power it up carefully and check the sound is now working.

If the diaphram keeps going eg every 3 to 4 months then you will need to change the driver which is quite expensive to do. If you need spares and are based in the UK, contact LondonSpeakerShop.com who carry spare parts or can undertake the repair.

Hope this helps.

Mackie srm450 no output

Probably the internal fuse or the amp blown. If these are the MK1 they are notoriously unreliable and you can't even change the fuse without stripping the thing down. Sound OK when working but don't expect them to keep working if you want to drive them hard. I know of some people who have changed them to passive and put a crossover in them (I suppose it at least means you have a speaker but defeats the object of active) There are plenty of independents who fix these as they are so problematic but if you can get a pair of decent speakers. The MKII is supposed to be much better but still has some issues with reliability.

Mackie srm450 v2 no top end.

Check the aspect of the crossover filter for the speakers, inside. Sometimes they fry.

Hi; My mackie srm450 is not giving bass anymore what can I do to repair it ?

FIrst of all this is not a repair site per se. We help by providing information that you may require to repair something.

For your specific problem, there can be many causes. The speaker itself can be defective, the amp may be blown or the crossover could be malfunctioning. Without seeing the actual unit, I cannot possibly know which is the case. These are decent units and rarely fail in this manner. In my experience, the likely problem is the speaker itself. You can contact Mackie directly for a replacement. If you have an ohmmeter, disconnect one of the speaker wires and measure across the speaker terminals. You should read either 6 or 3.6 ohms. If you read infinity, the coil is open and the speaker must be replaced. If you feel that you cannot attempt this repair, please update this with your location so I can suggest a repair facility close by.

Thanks,
Dan

How to open a Mackie SRM450

Sorry about the late response. These units are sealed at the factory and opening them up for the first time is a bit of work. Make sure that all the screws are out of the unit and using a large screwdriver, carefully pry up one side. It will be difficult. Apply steady pressure and the back will eventually free up.

We use a mackie dfx 12 mixer and 2 mackie srm450 active speakers for a band situation the mics are sure sm58s we have to keep the levels of each cannel mixers quite high what are we doing wrong

Does the VU-meter (green/yellow/red strips of LEDs) on the mixer go all the way to the top when you adjust gain and slider level?
If yes, try boosting up the active speakers by adjusting the small volume button at the back of the speakers.
Also, make sure the equalizer (on the mixer) is set at 0 (the middle) for every slider (And not at -12). The 'voice cancellation' and 'break swich' should also both be unpressed.

Repair a Mackie SRM 450 Speaker The Speaker is making a crackling sound while playing. The sound keeps cracking up.

You probably need to replace the diaphragm. The diaphragm is located behind the back cap. Simply remove the back cap, remove the diaphragm, clean the voice coil gap with a piece of masking tape, install a new replacement diaphragm, reinstall the back cap. That it!
You can see videos on how to replace diaphragm at this link.
