Take out the memory stick and insert into another camera or laptop. Then you should be able to retrieve the photos.

We have a Fuji film finepix S4900. It takes photos beautifully but then some of the photos are missing when we try and check them on the camera or down load them. The camera says read error. What would...

Save away all photos you can and erase/format the memory card.
If the error still continues, try replace the card with another and test again.
Clean the card connector and the one in the camera with a cotton bud and some alcohol.
Memory cards are rarely make problems, but sometimes happen.

Import photos from memory card

If you have a memory card reader then you need to do the following:
1. Insert your memory card in a card reader.
2. Give it sometime to install then go to MY COMPUTER
3. Select MEMORY CARD
4. Then there will be a folder named DCIM select that folder
5. There you will find all your pictures.
6. Select all your pictures by pressing CTRL + A (to select all)
7. Then CTRL + C (to copy)
8. and paste it where you want to save the pictures.

I was transferring pics from my Nikon Coolpix S210 via Nikon transfer. Pressed the deleted icon, and photo's were deleted instantly. Tried to retreive them using a download from the internet, but no joy....

Without being harsh or rude don't do anything to that memory card but take it to someone who has the proper recovery program. There is a chance as long as you haven't formatted the memory card and started shooting new images over the ones you want to retrieve. There are a lot of recovery programs on the Internet but most are for specific memory cards.

I use Lexar memory card because I know the photo Lab I use has recovery programs for Lexar and SanDisk. Some off brand or no name memory cards may be more difficult to extract the data from.

To answer your question "What am I doing wrong" you aren't doing anything wrong except not having the correct retrieval program.

Sorry I know this isn't a quick fix but it's the best way of saving those images.

I taken come photos by using sony dsc-s500 model camera :: but its all shows only error file . how to recover the photos back

In this case you should try some photo recovery software to rescue the lost photos from your camera, here are some programs you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery (for Mac OS X)

Note: Before your photos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the camera memory card in case the original files(your photos) are overwritten.

I just inserted a new 8GB memory card but it tells me ''OUT OF MEMORY'' I tried to format it but still gives me the same message. Why is that and what can I do about it please?

The memory card you are trying to use in the camera is not supported. This camera is an older technology that can not recognize the large 8 GB memory capacity of the card. In fact, the largest approved card your camera will recognize is 1 GB.

The list of approved memory cards was obtained from the Nikon Site directly, and pasted below for your convenience.

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 5700:

CompactFlash memory cards:
SanDisk SDCFB series 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, 96 MB, and 128 MB
Lexar Media 4× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 8× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 10× USB series 128 MB and 160 MB
Lexar Media 40x USB WA series 256 MB*
Microtech International Digital Flash Film 1GB*
Delkin eFilm 650MB Pro*
Ritz Big Print 8x 256MB* (Edge Code 0E1B)

Microdrive cards:
DSCM-10512 512 MB
DSCM-11000 1 GB

Usually a bad card in my experience - I'm too tight to buy decent cards, and quite a few have given me problems. Luckily they're quite cheap nowadays!!

You could try using a PC with card reader to format them first, and cleaning the contacts carefully.

Hope this helps.
