Thanks for the try. XPlite wont help. She needs something reliable that can be updated. We will keep trying to get the original systems disk or eventually adquire a new licence, either XP or the new Windows 7 that will arrive soon. Vista is not an option.

    Thanks,

    Jesus

On my personal laptop, any of your solutions will surely do. But you should know how women behave, specially when they are daughters or wifes. I need to keep trying.

    Thaks,

FWIW i found a AA 5630 in the trash that had no HDD. I did not need Acer recovery disks and you may not either. Pick whatever OS you like then add the drivers you need that you by downloading from acer. Because i dislike the proprietary software the laptop companys provide, I just extract the drivers only, from the executables provided by Acer to a folder on my desktop then i use the device manger to load the driver. Long story longer, i torrented my current OS, salvaged a 5gig HDD from another discarded notebook to use for a tester, loaded it with the Sept edition of XPlite (visit the Nlite webpage), unrar-ed then installed the drivers from the driver programs and this Acer notebook is fantastic. If i had the original disks i would choose not to use them, unless whoever happens to read this can give me a reason i should.

Hey Jesus: Seven was outed by MS months ago in the Beta format.(It is sweet on one of my Desktops.) You have already paid for MS... you don't pay twice for the same machine do you? No one i know has had to do this. It is true you need MS updates but only if you don't have a properly configured firewall.(ZA or Norton's etc)(many are free) If you truly believe these updates are necessary look for the most recent release of your OS.

Need To Reboot to factory settings

System Recovery is Factory Settings. Did you make the System Recovery Disk or are you trying to use the Recovery Partition that the manufacturer put on your hard drive?

Anyway, for the time being lets forget about system Recovery since you say it does not work.

Run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Hi, i want to reset my acer aspire 5615 laptop to factory settings, it will only go to 6% and then freeze and after awhile says it failed

The entire hard disk (on which the recovery partition is situated) is damaged. The hard disk will have to be replaced and the system restored using the disk that you should have made when you bought the laptop.
If you no longer have the disks or you get the problem using them then you need new disks - you must order them from Acer.

Acer 5534 will not boot up....tried recovery disk....but nothing......error message PXE-E61-media test failure..........no bootable device

Hello:
Your Acer laptop is not detecting a bootable device, for sure your hard disk is:
1.- Malfunctioning and has lost its master boot record.
2.- It can be ruined and must be replaced.

In the first case, primary and recovery partition are bad, as you mention the recovery process failed (ctrl +F11). First, press F2 during POST, when "a enter Setup message" is prompted on the bottom of screen to check if the hard disk is listed on the Main BIOS properties. If detected, the hard disk can be recovered booting from DVD-ROM. In the BIOS setup utility, you need to select boot from de DVD-RW. Insert Windows 7 setup disk and it will check for possible boot errors, choose repair when prompted. Follow the instructions. The system will restart.
If the hard disk was not detected in BIOS properties, you should ask Acer for guarantee.

I hope this helps. Thanks

I have no Acer Recovery disks My lap top is giving me 5 options Systems Repair - tried this doesnt work Systems Restore - tried this doesnt work Windows Diagnostic Tool - tried that took bout ten mins and...

Could you look at solutions other than running a system restore? What is the initial issue that is requiring you to run the restore?
If you're at the point of needing to run a restore, you do need to get your hands on the discs, I would recommend borrowing the discs from someone else with an Acer, or purchasing them from the manufacturer. Trying to borrow discs from someone might be an issue as Acer no longer provides physical recovery discs, the process is run directly from the laptop and the files are on a partitioned section of the harddrive.

Recovery disk for xp operating system

if your pc came with disc and you have lost them, contact the pc manufracture and ask for replacement, you may need to pay for shipping or some sort of set fee.

if your computer did not come with recovery disk then do following.
most notebooks/desktops makers try to save money by not making recovery cd anymore, instead they put the recovery partition on the hard drive, which is hidden.
your computer should have come with recovery disc creator tool software from which you can make cd/dvds.

acer has e-recovery management tool built in.
here is your manual...

I have a loptop of Acer Aspire5520.I have to formate now but i lost my system backup & restore disk. How can i get this backup.Pls let me know.

Normally , acer laptops have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive , which contains all of the recovery data so you dont need the recovery discs.

When you boot up your computer and you get the Acer logo etc , try pressing keys to start the recovery - this puts everything back to factory default settings and erases your data.

Also , A program ships with the laptop called 'Acer Empowering Technology - eRecovery' which allows you to burn your own recovery disc - You then use this disc to perform a complete system restore.

Acer Aspire 3500 Lost Recovery Discs

if you are trying to recover your system using the build in partition, the key you will use is F11 at bootup...

as far as the discs, if you've already created a set with your system you can't make another. if this is the case, you can contact acer and order a set for your particular model.

if you haven't, you can make them with a program, (for acer i believe its called recovery manager?). With vista its easy to find, just start typing "recovery" in the start search bar and click on the relevant program. you can then make the discs with a few blank cds/dvds

Recovery For ACER 3660

If you have recovery disk try starting them from Windows, or start computer with disk inside and chose 'boot from cd'.
After booting from recovery disc chose complete recovery.
Save a backup of your data, as complete recovery may delete the data.
If recovery disk does not work you will have to install Windows from a generic Windows setup disk, in this case refer to manual for how to.

Here is the user manual, check from page 82
