Question about Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker

1 Answer

Autostop problem Brewed coffee this morning, about 3/4 of the way thru it turned off. Pushed start again, it finished brewing then shut off very soon afterward, 5 min or less. My Autostop is set for two hours. Mine is 8 years old also, never had a problem before. Tried brewing again w/ the timer and seems to be working now, with the timer only.

Mine does the same thing. 3 yrs old.

Same problem, brews 6-8 cups and shuts off. Lost my manual.
Has something on the auto on set wrong? If I keep turning it on it
will brew a little more sometimes. Sometimes I can't turn it on at all.

Me too...ours is about 2 yrs old, very erratic. Works for weeks, and then it goes through a spell of shutting-off midway through a brewing cycle. Clearly a manufacturing/design defect. Other than that, not a bad coffee maker.

Same problem here only my DCC 1200 is only a couple of months old. It started out where I had to brew each pot twice to get it to brew the full pot. Then three times, then four..... Now it takes like 9 times to make a full pot.

Mine and my father-in-law's as well--both coffeemakers six years old, problem just started this month. Three-year warranty, oh well. I expected more from a $100 coffeemaker, but I guess $17 a year isn't bad. I still won't buy another Cuisinart. Fool me once...

Same problem, approximately 5 yrs old. Just stops brewing either with auto brew or manual cycle. Can sometimes restart, sometimes not.

Hello gschris213,
I recently had this similar problem. If you still have you machine try the following.
Your described problem may be one of two problems. Let's start with the easier solution first. In the DCC 1200 there is a filter "stick or column" in the left rear. Pull it out and remove the clogged carbon filter(s) that are in there. Shine a light into the receptacle and remove the debris in the bottom. It is likely that this is causing the problem with you machine needing to be started on multiple times. See if this solution works. If it does, you might run 8 cups of water and 4 cups of vinegar through to help decalcify the units plumbing. Do this once or twice and then rinse with at least one pot run-through of clean water. If this works then you are good to go.
Next, if this does not solve your problem we can do the following: unplug the unit and lay it on its back. You will need a #10 torx driver (hardware store if you don't have one) to remove the bottom cover plate. There are 4 torx screws holding it on. When removed, you will find 2 orange hoses. Carefully attempt to remove the left hose without splitting. I used a eyeglas screwdriver to loosen it up. If it splits, just cut off the split and stretch it to reconnect when time comes. As you look into the hose you will find a little black valve inside as well a some gunk. Clean it all out with a fine wire as best you can. Rinse well. Attempt to reconnect the hose back onto the pipe. Slip the pipe clamp back into place. Replace the cover and screws and you should be good to go again. This is not as daunting as it may seem. You can do it. :o) Good luck! If this answer helps, please leave positive feedback for me. Much appreciated. Regards, NormanZ

Cuisinart dc 1200 coffee maker auto start mysteriously shuts off

Sounds like the switches got damp when you cleaned it. Let it dry out very thoroughly before you plug it back in. Then set the TIME OF DAY first, and be sure you pay attention to AM/PM if you are not in the 24-hour mode. Next, set the BREW TIME. Once again, heed the AM/PM or you will have nice hot coffee either 12 hours early, or 12 hours late! (I don't know which would be worse.)

I have the grind and brew thermal coffeemaker. The water does not get hot enough for steam to come off of the coffee when it is poured.

Hi, I have owned that coffee maker for years.
After it brews coffee, it does not have a warmer to keep it hot. It has a thermally insulated carafe. Such as regular lunchbox thermos jugs have. The reasoning behind this is that coffee heated after it is brewed spoils in a short time. (Of course, unheated coffee gets cold).
What that translates to for you with regard to no steam is this. As soon as the coffee maker finishes brewing your coffee, open the top of the carafe, stick in a spoon and stir it.Then pour it. (I learned the stirring part working in a restaurant).
If you have to wait before you drink it, do the same. Stir it first.
Hope this has been helpful
Love that grinder!
Best Regards,
Mark

After first cup is brewed, it shuts itself off and

No solution but we are on our 5th replacement from Keurig. Everyone has done exactly the same thing. It worked fine for a few weeks, than started turning off after brewing a cup. Like the problem states, the only way we can get it to work is to turn off and wait 15 minutes or so, then try again. Keurig has been great in replacing our coffee makers, but I really like it to just work.

I had some coffee grounds stuck up in the cone shaped hole that the water comes from at the top. I had to use a very long toothpick but it broke up some of the grounds that happened to get caught up inside. Before doing this, I went through 24 oz of vinager ;) .. the toothpick worked!

I do love our Cuisinart pot...but find they only last 2-3 years...so my suggestions is: if the pot is still in warranty, call Cuisinart for a new one...they are great about it. If you don't know if it is still in warranty, call them, give them the number and they will tell you.

Pot keeps shutting off after coffee completely brewed.

This may be an electrical issue, but I would try holding in the on/off button for a few seconds and see if it still displays 2 hrs as the auto-off time. If 2 hrs does display correctly, unplug the unit for 16 minutes or longer - do not plug it back in a single second shy of 16 minutes. Then reset the clock and reprogram the auto-off Try one more time.

If that fails, it may be replacement time.
