Goodman heater...to begin with, is the heater the right size for the job? You didn't say how much area you are trying to heat. I assume the heater is working properly.

Second question (Christi) - You could have sevral issue. Is the gas on? Does the ignitor work? It should glow with heat when the heater starts. Also, check the flame sensor. If you have the skill, check that the ignitor is getting power. They will wear out after several years of use.

All gas providers have a techie who will come out and check your system for you. They will tell you what the problem is and then you can fix it yourself, have them fix it, or have another technician fix it.

I have 2 goodman heating systems. one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The downstairs works great. With the same temp settings on the upstairs, The blower kicks on and you hear the the flame kick on...

i have seen this just the other day customer called and there thermostat would not maintain temp... changed batteries and after five mins did it again... couple of things need to make sure you have fresh batteries if it takes them in thermostat. also try overriding program by pressing the hold button and set where you desire see if it works then... if it still fails to maintain you need to make sure the unit is not running when it is suppose to be off... if the fan is running and the thermostat is not calling for heat or cool then it is possible the flame sensor on the heater is bad or needs to be cleaned... to be honest based on what you are saying sounds like you got two different items going on....
a sure way to test if your mechanical inclined is take the t-stat apart jump the r terminal to the w terminal go to unit and unplug for 10 seconds and plug back in if everything fires up and stays going you 100% have a thermostat issue...

I have a downdraft Goodman furnace. On only some occasions the blower will start, then after a few seconds I will see the igniter light up, but then I do not get the rush of gas and lighting of the...

It sounds like you got a tough one there. When you say the blower starts up and then the igniter comes on are you refering to induced draft motor or main blower. The proper sequence is for the thermostat to call for heat at which point the induced draft motor should come on and run for 30-45 seconds, then the igniter should heat up for a few seconds then gas valve should open and main burner should light. After limit switch reaches set point for fan on ,blower should come on till after heat has reached thermostat setting then burner should go out, and blower run until fan off setting is reached on limit switch. If your furnace is not following this sequence and then not always doing the same thing in the same order,I would recommend that you change out board again. I have had several problems similar to this with Goodman units and all but one time installing new board solved it. That time I did everything I knew to do and talked to factory service techs repeatedly and finally installed new furnace. As far as your question about insulation,. As long as it is fire proof I can't see where it would hurt anything. Sorry I'm not more help. Good luck and thanks.

My furnace heats the house well, but during the cool down it actually blows cold air dropping the temperature causing the furnace to re-ignite. How do I adjust? Goodman - GMS9/GCS9

Depending on the age of the furnace you may be able to adjust the cool down. On some furnaces there is a silver box usually made by honeywell. This is your fan limit control. If you take the cover off you will see a dial with different temperature settings with 3 pins in a grove. The first one is fan on with temperature rise this turns the blower on when the furnace starts and warms up. The second is the fan off after furnace shuts down, this would be the one you want to adjust to a higher temperature to keep the blower from blowing cold air. The last pin is the high limit if the furnace gets to this temperature it will shut the furnace off but keep the blower running. Make sure that the thermostat fan option is set to auto and not on.

It probably went thru the 3 cycles and shut downed. To reset it you have to kill power and restart it, sound like loose connection .

Goodman AR42-1 blower works on heat mode but not on a/c

You may have a problem with the board or the motor, as there is a separate speeds for heating and cooling. I would call a competent, NATE certified technician to daignose this properly.

Goodman a/c works, heater will work fine then fan will stop

you have a circuit board acting up. Try keeping the fan in the "On" position. It will keep the blower on all the time but it may work. There is a built-in delay not allowing the unit to come on after you reset it with the thermostat, wait three minutes or so to see if it comes back on. I still suspect a bad circuit board.

I am confident the technician(s) have done this but check anyway.
Gas pressure 4-7 inches W.C for natural, 10 - 11 for Propane.
Air filter clean and unrestricted.
Temperature over supply plenum 140 degrees F.
All registers open and unrestricted.
Vent and intake unrestricted and not blocked.
Condensate hoses free of debris and draining.

OK now lets check to see if the furnace is staying on long enough. When it runs for a heat cycle, is the flame staying on until about 2 minutes prior to achieving the set temperature or is it cycling everyfew seconds and never reaching temp? To check you will need to view the flame through a small viewing port of thru the fins in the front door. Watch them for 10 to 15 minutes.

If they are staying on a long time, we will need to see if the room blower is working properly. If they are going out quickly and or cycling. Get the technician on the pone to talk it over. It could be a safety sensor.

If the blower stays on and the burners are on as well, you have a door open somewhere. Just kidding. Remove the thermostst documenting which wires go where. Take the white wire and cross it with the red wire. This will (or should) turn on the furnace. Clamp them together untill the either the house gets warm or you are confident it is not going to reach temperature. If it did get close to the temperature you wanted, it is a thermostat issue. If not, you got me!

And they say we have an easy job! Get beck to us with your results.
