Hi you can do following steps:

1- Clean the metal rod that the carriage moves on. Ink splatters onto it and makes it sticky. Moisten a paper towel with Windex, wipe the bar off. Repeat until no more ink comes off and the bar is shiny. The carriage should move much better now.

2- If that doesn't work, clean the encoder strip. This is a small plastic strip that runs parallel and above the bar you cleaned. It goes through a sensor on the carriage. This strip actually has little lines on it that the sensor reads to determine the position of the carriage. When it gets dirty the printer freaks out and calls it a carriage jam because all it knows is that it isn't getting the signal it expects. Be careful; it is only hooked on either end by hooks and spring tension, and it is fairly easy to unhook it. It is very difficult to hook it back up.

Turn off the printer and manually move the ink cartridges to the position that you can remove the ink cartridge.
turn on the printer without the ink cartridge. The printer will tell you, you need a ink cartridge, open the printer and insert the ink cartridge as described in the manual.

Try to power off and unplug the printer, then force the carriage to move with your hand
When the carriage moves, place it in the extreme right position, then plug in and power on :D

Printer says "Open Door Clear Cartridge Jam" How

You might wanna try removing and reinserting the cartridges and make sure that they are properly fitted in.
Sometimes cleaning the cartridge and the carriage where you took out the cartridges from with a damp lint free cloth does the trick.
If you still have that message, open the cartridge access door.
If the carriage is stuck at the right side of the printer, move the carriage to the left side by hand. If it's stuck on the left side, try moving it by hand in the right side of the printer. Then while the printer is turned on, unplug it from the wall outlet and then plug it back in.
If the printer does not turn on, use the power button.
Try printing again.

I am receiving an error message on my HP Officejet 6110 printer screen that prevents the printer from functioning. The message is "Open door. Clear carriage jam and then press enter." I've tried opening...

yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

Where is the ink cartridge located on the HP office jet 6110 prin

if you are to lift the top part of your printer you will see the cartridges inside as shown below:

Lifting the scanner bed exposes the entire paper path and gives your hands plenty of space to replace ink or clear paper jams.

HP 6110 error message "clear carriage jam"

No one from "FixYa" provided me any useful solutions to try. Following the HP reset instructions many cycles did not work. By accident, I finally got the HP 6110 working again by unplugging it from the Monster brand surge protector power strip, depowering both for a period of about one hour, then repowering the power strip, then plugging in the HP 6110 and going through its reset function once more. Plugging the HP 6110 directly into the wall outlet into which the power strip was/is plugged did not solve the problem. Note that gremlins in that same power strip also adversely affected my ZyXel DSL modem, or perhaps spurious backfeed signals from that DSL modem affected the HP unit. Sorry, I'm not able to provided any explanations as to why this worked; I am not a digital/PC'electronics person. I was about to tear the machine apart to clean all the surfaces and mirrors as others had recommended, or buy a replacement.

apply greese material on the steel rod on which the carriage moves.or it could also be the problem of the sensor which detects the paper in the printer ,that sensor is moved from its orignal position.

HP officejet 6110 all in one

Probably one of two causes:

1)Cartidge is Faulty/Out of Date/Not original.

2)Printer is Faulty.

Most HP cartridges have a specific life, no matter if you use it or not. You should check the cartridge life - its printed on the cartridge itself. If its in date and broken you can get a free replacement from HP. Try a new cartridge first.

If you are still getting an error message after changing the cartridge and your printer is no longer in warranty, its normally cheaper to throw it away than get it fixed. If its in warranty, call HP. They normally replace very quickly.

"Clear carriage jam" persistent error...

I got the error message about clearing the carriage and no matter how many times I turned it off, unpluged, turned in on again, checked for paper jams, etc, the printer could not get reset. But after much trial en error, the following procedure did the trick: Unplug the power cord and open the door. To the right side, you'll see the ink tray. Carefully pull it to the center and unistall the ink cartriges. Close the door, plug in the power cord and turn the printer on. It should ask you to install the left ink cartrige first. Do it and close the door again. Then it'll ask you to install the right cartrige. Do it as well and turn the printer off again. Turn it back on, let it initialized, and your printer should be ready to work again. I hope this work for you as it did for me. Good luck.
